Been on here a while and finally had time to snap a couple pics. Twin Cities, Minnesota. '02 X1 w/ PM Wheels, 11K miles. Mods: Lowered 1", American Sport Bike carbon & Bar risers, Race ECM, V&H gutted, forcewinder intake, 180 rear, rear signals on the front, Corbin seat, bar end mirrors, catch can, Hydrographic'd the battery in carbon fiber, and Viper Car Starter and Alarm.

Didn't know the X1 looked so sharp in yellow. Also didn't know they came with diamond-cut cylinders. As an aside, my X1 has better performance (and better AFV) with a packed V&H exhaust. I think it sounds better too. You also need Race maps but you probably already knew that. |

Good Looking ride. Great job May we inquire as to how you lowered the rear? Can see that the tubes are raised in the triple clamps, but would like additional input on what you did in the rear (Message edited by Buelldualsport on July 26, 2015) |

You can lower the rear of the bike by using a 14.7" front shock mount with a 16.5" shock. |

The original shocks were longer. They were recalled, a couple of times I think, and the final replacement was shorter, and required a different front mount. |

So, a 16.5" shock mount with a 14.7" shock would just make the bike even taller, correct? |

"So, a 16.5" shock mount with a 14.7" shock would just make the bike even taller, correct?" I got what I thought was a 14.7" Penske shock to replace the Buell OEM 16.5". What I really got was a 16.5" Penske shock. I also purchased the 14.7" front mount that I needed and installed it. So, with a 16.5" Penske shock, and a 14.7" front mount, the bike is noticeably lower! |

Sorry for the late reply! I forgot to get email notifications on the thread and haven't been back on since I posted. Thanks for all the compliments! Yes, I needed it lower. I'm 5'8" and still can't flatfoot it. The front I raised the tubes in the triple clamps, and added the American Sport Bike bar risers at the same time. This was perfect, as it kept the gauges, headlight, windscreen, etc, all in perfect factory alignment. I also contemplated shocks/bracket changes, but didn't know enough about it at the time 7 years ago. I removed the front bracket and had a friend who does C&C work for Honeywell make another one after calculating the drop. I wanted an inch, and I think we moved the shock mount hole back about 3/8" to achieve that. The only time it is an issue is if the wife is on the back the fender rubs on large bumps, even though I drilled out the mounting holes and lowered the rear fender closer to the tire by .25". I'm 170lbs and she's 120lbs, but I'm too lazy to re-setup the preload every time I ride 2up. lol. Lakes: I just spent 2 weeks finishing my aircraft mechanics license in Oklahoma with a guy that works in Sydney. He grew up in New Zealand. We talked a lot about the similarities of Minnesota and Australia! Thanks Again Everyone, Chad |
