The last two times I washed 03 XB9 and ran around block to dry brakes the front end clunked loudly each rev. to a stop. It works normally all other times. Any ideas? | ||

I'd suspect the steering head bearings if you're hearing clunking? Henrik | ||

Henrik, I just checked the bearings and cant induce any play. The key seems to be only when wet. | ||

I don't quite follow your description of the symptom you are noticing. One clunk per stop, or one clunk per wheel revolution? If one clunk per stop, the brake pads may be slipping and then seating against the caliper. Since the brakes are working fine and its not the steering head bearings, my idea would be to ride and enjoy.  | ||

One per revolution. No big deal, If its important it will let me know. Just strange as I have owned and worked on many bikes (including X1) and never encountered this. | ||

That's odd mine make no sound wet or dry. I thought that if they were new they might be seating or something. I know that mine chattered and made alot of noises when they were new. | ||

Just for the record.. Mine make a faint buzzing noise when I'm on the brakes real lightly... they always have. | ||

I bought new pads today and compared them to the existing. Lots of life left. I guess this is just another case of " different in every way". Thanks all for the input. | ||

I am thinking that maybe one of the mounting bolts are loose? Don't know why it would only happen when wet though. Maybe check those out. I don't think I would give up on that. Check it out. | ||

there is a small amount of play in your front caliper for expansion from heat. with your bike off, grab front brake and push bike back and forth...you should hear it! it freaked me out too!! | ||

I had the same thing going on with my bike. It seams to me that once the water and gunk from washing it was off rotor it worked fine. Then later on down the road I encountered a bad pulse and shake when I used the front brakes. It got worse as the brakes got warm. I took it to the dealer and one of the shims behind the bushings in the rotor was cocked from the factory. They replaced them all with the updated bushings. Still had a prob. So they replaced the rotor two. The thing works fine now. They never gave me a good explaination and Buell didn't even seam to shrug at the claim. I'm very happy for this and every one round was very helpful. I'm not saying this is what is wrong. Just letting you know what happened to me. Good luck. | ||

Front brakes are important... Get it fixed. A buzzing noise is OK from what I hear, but a louder noise each revolution almost has to be from the mounting hardware. You don't want to lose "the" front disk trying to stop. |
