I get absolutely nothing when i turn the key on my 05 CityX. No lights, no dash, no noises. Nothing. It was running fine on the last ride. I was away and didn't ride for maybe two weeks so i put it on the tender figuring the battery was too low. The battery is new and only a few months old. Its a Drag Spec. from Al at American Sport Bike. I put a meter on it and it was at 12v. All the fuses look good, relays too as I've replaced them. I dug in behind the windscreen and unlpugged the ignition key switch and had voltage in the plug from the harness thinking maybe there is a broken wire in there. So my next thing might be the voltage reg. Would that cause this type of issue? Anyone have the same symptoms? Thanks for any help. |

wiggle test the battery terminals. I had a similar issue and the culprit was that the battery screw was too long to use without a spacer. So I put a star washer in the terminal stack and all is good now.} |

All the connections seem solid along with the ground. Thanks for the reply. I just tested the diode in the fuse box and its not going to zero could this be the culprit? |

An then theres this.... Charged Battery to 14.6v. Turn the key an it goes to around 2v to 3v. Turn off key an it only goes back up to 10v. Is it a bad battery? |

So voltage on the batt just keeps dropping. jumpered to my truck batt and its alive again. Dash sweeps an lights. Do batteries go bad like this? |

yes you probably have a bad battery and that does happen, but it has a warranty. get a load test to confirm.. Batteries plus and any good service station will load test for free. also, some battery tenders are bad for your battery I never use them. |

Thanks for the info. Is there anything in the charging system that could cause the battery to go bad? The regulator or the stator etc...? |

While charging system issues certainly are not good for the battery, and they can shorten its life, it wouldn't insta kill it like what happened to you. It is not hard to diagnose the charging system, so I recommend running tests on your stator and VR to verify they are not being problematic. For the stator you disconnect the output connector, it has 3 pins, you just set your voltmeter to AC and check the voltage on pins A-B, A-C, and B-C. I don't recall the voltage off the top of my head, it is in the service manual. |

So quick update. Voltage Regulator is bad. Still having trouble charging the battery with a Battery Tender Jr. Red light blinks when it should be solid. I even disconnected it completely to charge. Could the regulator have damaged the battery? |

did you load test the battery? sounds like it died and then how do you know the regulator is bad if the battery is? |

Haven't had the batt load tested yet. Haven't had a chance to get to the parts shop with it. I set my meter to the diode test and I'm getting zeros across the board for all the positive end tests. The neg end tests were good. That sound kosher? |

Disconnect the battery entirely. Charge the battery completely. Load test the battery. If it fails, its a bad battery. If it passes, THEN start to fiddle with the charging system. A fully functional charging system should read a little over 14v at idle measured at the battery (with a good battery). |
