So for a while my speedometer (XB12XT) is intermittent and also the engine would die when releasing the clutch from stand still. I figured this was due to the side stand not registering as up. Evidently my ECM worked it out too. Checking diagnostic codes confirmed both of these problems. Looking at the wiring diagram I see the two systems share a common ground and also that they are the only two systems on this ground. I'm thinking a short somewhere is more likely than losing speed and side stand sensors at the same time so I decided to trouble shoot. After several minutes of staring at the bike I still had no idea where to start and there was cold beer in the fridge so thats as far as I got. Maybe pertinent, I'm not sure if it was always like this but I have recently found that when the speedo is not working cycling the Engine Run/Off switch while riding gets the speedo working. 100% of the time so far. Has anyone got any history with this or any ideas of how to find the short. |

I can't speak to the side stand switch, as I've got a domestic model without that. My speedometer also intermittently craps out. It generally happens if I turn the bike off and then right back on, which I do occasionally to trigger traffic light sensors. I've noticed that turning the bike off and back on a second time seems to fix the speedometer. Next time I ride, I'll try flipping the kill switch while moving and see if that does it. Anybody know if this speedometer thing is a bug or a feature? |

Oh, and looking at the wiring diagram for the 2010 Lightning/Uly, the fuel pressure sensor is on Sensor Ground #2 at the ECM, along with the vehicle speed sensor and the sidestand switch. All three of these sensors, plus the bank angle sensor, also share the same 5v sensor power from the ECM. Has your fuel pump been making any noises it didn't used to, ever since your speedometer started acting up? I recently had my ECM replaced after my speedometer and fan both got wonky, and ever since, the fuel pump or pressure regulator is audible almost constantly, rather than just when priming before starting the motor. I'm planning to go back to the dealer before the 90 day parts warranty is up and have them double-check everything. |

Check SENSOR,vehicle speed PN 74431-01B which is the same as used on SPORTSTERS ... If the TRANSMISSION FLUID/OIL is not changed every 5K it collects metal on it and/or just goes bad ... |
