No my X1 2002 it has a short gear linkage, it is really close to the clutch cable, i was wondering if i can fit the boomerang stile gear linkage that was on my 1999 X1?

Dont have the chance to don size the photo of the actual linkage.

The OEM Shift Linkage is the "BEST" !!!

If you get the ERGONOMICS right it will work better for you !!!

The "Z" linkage was stock on the 02. You should be able to adjust it - maybe flip one of the arms if it dimples in, to make it dimple out? It should not come too close to your cable.

Check your owners manual and make sure the arms are clocked (pointed) in the right direction.

Personally, I prefer the boomerang as the point of pivot is the same as the footpeg. It's easier on the toe.
My uly isn't terrible but I definitely notice the difference.

I second the boomerang shifter! way better than the newer style in my opinion

I think I have my 99 X1 shifter laying around. If I can find it, would you consider swapping your 02 shifter for it?

Your question is will it fit?
Yes.
They're a big pain in the butt when you need to remove the inspection cover and they're kind of unsightly but they work well enough.

If your shifter is getting really close to the clutch cable there is a good chance it is bent.

Do you also have to put your foot really far down to get under it to upshift? Feels really awkward, and if you adjust it to where you want it hits the derby cover?

I've found a couple of the later shifter arms that are bent through the pivot point. I attempted to straighten one and it works fine now.

Also, do you have correct spacer under the shifter that mounts the chin fairing. For the longest time I didn't know there was a steel spacer and had two aluminum ones on my bike. When I swapped it out for the right one the shifting was significantly more positive and consistent. The spacer is #45 in this pic.

Thanks, i was wondering, there is no low fuel light?
So need to judge the average fuel consumption to prevent ending up having to call a find to bring some gas?

There should be a fuel light. Unless somebody has swapped your tach out with a M2 tach. Do you have the check engine light?

If you mean the light doesn't work, the senders are a pretty common failure and are fairly easy to replace on the FI tubers.

The low fuel light is important because of the way the fuel injection system on these old clunkers Works.
Don't run out of fuel is best. lift the cap to check fuel until you get used to the fuel light.
Fuel up as soon as you see the fuel light.
No ethanol ever.

Thanks, true it has the low fuel light, i just though it was on the little Dashboard not no the rev counter, i do tend to fill up before reaching the low fuel light, here in Spain se use 95 or 98 octane gas.

No ethanol ever? That's not really possible, or should I say practical, here in the US. Luckily, 10% ethanol doesn't seem to hurt my X1 or Useless any.

I don't know the specific mixture of fuel, but 95 is good and 98 seems to heat more the engine but better combustion with less carbon deposits.

I just use the middle grade (whatever they call it in between regular and high test) with no issues.

Here in Minnesota there is plenty of gas stations that carry "Non-Oxygenated" Premium which has no ethanol. Its usually 91-92 Octane. I use it in the Buell and all my small engines, lawn equipment etc. It will last a year or so without a stabilizer. It has a warning sticker "for use in classic cars, boats, motorcycles, etc ONLY" lol. All grades of regular gas w/ 10% ethanol seems to go bad in about a couple months!
