I heard or read somewhere long ago that hot brake fluid smells like chlorine bleach. I freqently get a whiff of that bleach smell when I'm riding but no indications of a leaky brakes system. Anyone ever experience this and have any ideas? |

I smell lots of things while riding. Most of them are not coming from me, Thank Goodness! |

Are you riding within 20 miles of New Jersey? That could be it right there. |

Can't pay me enough to go near Jersey... It is weird though, occasional whiff of chlorine bleach like someone is doing laundry...but nowhere near houses or civilization. Hoping to get a good long ride in tomorrow to end the long holiday weekend. Gonna zip over into Ohio to a scenic state park (Beaver Creek), then lunch near Youngstown, and back roads to the homestead afterwards....most likely dodging rain clouds all the way. LOL |

Perhaps something is on your header and is baking off? |

When I was young, and talked of something I smelled, the step father would tell me it was my breath backing up on me. |

I'm guessing that someone spilled bleach or treated/shocked a swimming pool. |

@Ourdee -- Ya'd think so, but it doesn't always coincide with riding near civilization. Maybe some degreaser cooking off of the exhaust, but it does this sporatically, regardless of whether the thing has had a bath in recent history. |
