Hi All- going thru the archives I found this thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/757203.html?1434823602 with a lot of good info. I would like to do this without removing the shock- the comfort kit is covering it- is there enough hose length to allow removal of the pre-load adjuster and service it as described in the thread? I would appreciate a response from somebody who did it that way... Bike is 2010 XB12X Thanks Ishai |

Mark_Weiss- thanks for the reply. Can you (or somebody else) elaborate on the process of doing this on the bike? The Hose appears to be very short, and any advise would be highly appreciated.. Thanks Ishai |

I did it without removing the shock and it was quick and easy. I DID lay the bike on it's side to do it, however. Lay out a big rag or towel out to catch any dropped parts. It has been a while but I seem to remember dropping that little ball and it took longer to find it than it did to re-fill the hydrolic fluid. Laying the bike on it's side allows the system to be oriented "up" so there is no trapped air in it. It's best if the fuel tank is not full. Funny how doing that job seems faint in my feeble memory but SPREAD OUT A TOWEL FIRST is fresh and sharp in my mind... |

I did the work with the bike upright. Note the orientation of the hose to the adjuster body and then break the banjo bolt loose before dismounting the adjuster. Remove the adjuster from the hose, plug the hose, then take the adjuster to a workbench to refill. New sealing washers are a good idea. The most difficult part of the whole operation was remounting the adjuster to the bike. With the short hose, tight quarters, and awkward positioning, it was tricky to get the screws started. |

Yes, full shrouding. That IS what makes it such a pain to reinstall the adjuster. If I don't have to do it again for another 60k miles, I guess that it won't be so bad though. |

Thanks Mark, I will take a close look at it. Do you remember what size the washers for the banjo are and where you got them? Also, what fluid did you use? was it 5 weight suspension oil? Thanks Ishai |

I don't recall the washer size. Just check with a bike shop. They were a common size. Oil viscosity does not matter since there is no damping. I used whatever was on hand. |

I used jack oil when I did it on the bike. No comfort kit though. That's why I didn't pipe up. |
