Fuscat, The Eagle has landed, I repeat the Eagle has landed...... plans for Sat: Dennis is coming by around 9:30 and we are heading over to Central (damn TPS gig) where we will regale Frank with tales of our conquests on the 7 mile ride over. while he resets the TPS on Victotia of course. anyone want to join in is welcome. don't know where we'll be heading from there but it should be entertaining.....I haven't ridden this thing more than 70 miles in about eight months..... the beer is tasting good Dennis! Might want to make it 9:32, I may need to sleep in.

Well... I gotta tell you about the day of follow the leader, it was me and Sam... guess who was following who!? It all started at Sam's place... with the promise of beer when I got there. I had not had breakfast... so when I arrived at 9:30 am... I was not amused when he had welded the door to the refrigerator closed. If I coulda found his plasma cutter... I might of had breakfast! After scrounging through his medicine cabinet on the pretext of using his toilet... I was unable to find any prescription drugs. SO MUCH FOR MY USUAL BREAKFAST! My day was not starting off well!!! Then to Central HD for him to have his TPS reset. I would like to report... Frank is in fact alive and well... I was wondering if he had entered the witness protection program... it had been so long since I had seen or heard from him. While we were there Tripper made an appearance... taking more photographs than a Japanese tourist. I was very unhappy about that... the photo with me in Frank's work bay really pissed me off! He coulda waited until I put the tools in my tank bag before being mister photographer... now Frank will never leave me alone near his tool box... and I am going to have to spend my son's college fund for those tools I need! Before all this happened... Frank set up a demo ride on a XB12. Tripper got first go... (I always suspected Frank liked Tripper better than me... go figure!) Just as Tripper returned... Sam said something about he would buy me lunch... if we left right then for Weston... SO... no XB12 ride for Dennis. Just as Sam was about to leave without me... Thunder arrived in his truck... and I did not even get a chance to say hi... Or ask why he never called me to help him work on his Buell. I had told Sam I was low on fuel when we left Central... so I was expecting a stop at the nearest gas station. We passed a QT... then a 7 Eleven... then a Conoco... then a Shell... then a Standard... then 3 more QT... and about a dozen more gas stations. My low fuel light had been on so long by the time we stopped... the plastic on my instrument panel was beginning to melt from the heat generated by the bulb! I no more than hooked the fuel dispenser back on the pump... and Sam took off throwing gravel all over me and wheelie-ing out of the lot... I am glad I did pay at the pump. If any of you stop by the gas station just in Lansing on 7 Hwy... please get my receipt... I had to leave without it! I have no idea where he took me... or what lake and park we went through... but I really had trouble keeping up with Sam through some park... the speed limit was 20 MPH... and at no time I was even close to that speed... If I had slowed down... I would still be in some park lost and out of gas trying to find my way home. I accidentally caught up with Sam when he stopped for a cigarette. He said he knew a short cut from the park to Westin. The white knuckles from trying to keep up with Sam were getting uncomfortable... but I had no fu*king idea where I was... so I nodded my head and followed the gravel dust and tire smoke trail out of the park. I won't tell you about the two stop signs I had to run after Sam smoked through them! I am OK with country roads... there are some great twisties through areas like that... but after about 20 miles of gravel roads... I was getting a little stressed trying to keep the bike up through the turns. I swear I could hear Sam laughing as he ‘dirt tracked' through the turns. I do not know which was worse... the 3 inch deep gravel... or the dust I could not see through until that last second when the big blobs suddenly were recognizable as trees!!! Finally... we hit a paved road! We rolled into Weston and found a nice diner. They had HUGE cheese burgers! Sam kept passing beer to me... and in the 15 minute it took to get our order... I had 5 beers! I had left my glasses on my tank bag... and Sam pointed out a woman who he said kept winking at me. I asked Sam what she looked like and he said she was a knock out. Then he invited her to our table. I should have been suspicious when he told her to sit next to me... and he went to his bike to get his cigarettes. Well... the check came... and Sam didn't. I figured he would be right back... I could see the blur I thought was him across the street next to our bikes... From the movements he was making I thought he was ill and tossing his cookies... but later I discovered he was laughing his ass off! As I took the last drink... the bottom of the beer glass was exactly the same as my prescription of my glasses. Sam was right... she was a knock out... She looked like some one who lost a fight with Mike Tyson! I will never leave my glasses on my tank bag again. Well... Sam must have felt a little bad about the "knock out" and stiffing me with the tab for the beer and lunch... because he waited until I did all that work washing dishes... since I had no cash to pay for lunch. Off we went again... so fast I was afraid to look away from the road to my speedometer... all I could think was that I was grateful he was breaking in a new engine and was not going as fast as he could! After that we went down by Argosy Casino... to watch his buddies who professionally stunt ride to watch a practice session. It was pretty cool... a couple of them ask about the Buells... and wanted to ride Sam's XB. I was really surprised when after seeing wheelies and stoppies... some with dropped bikes... he offered to let them ride his XB. As I was walking away from where we parked to look at a custom bike... Sam tossed keys to the guy that I had noticed was the worst of the group... and once again Sam was laughing... which I thought was odd... at least I thought it was odd until I realized I did not have my keys and the guy did a burnout on MY bike. After the chest pains subsided... and my XB ran out of gas... and was pushed over to where we parked... I was able to breath normally. After everyone had a good laugh... they put gas in my XB and we left. Then we went to the Plaza... the reason I went to the Plaza after all that was because Sam had used my cell phone and never gave it back... so... WE went to the plaza. After we stopped... and Sam stopped laughing long enough to explain he had put my phone in my tank bag before he left doing a burn out... with me scrambling to put the gas cap back on my bike... he offered to buy me a drink. Sam left... Sam came back... Sam had a drink... but they "ran out of beer" after he got his drink. Sam finished his drink... and said he would make up for everything... and fire up the plasma cutter and get me some beer out of his frig at his place. As we were waiting for traffic to clear... Sam suddenly does a wheelie out in front of some tour bus... and loses me in traffic... knowing I probably could not find his house from there... SO... I gave up and went home! BUT... I gotta wonder... ya think Sam is waiting at his house with an open beer waiting for me! So... I could only think of a comment St Peter might have said to Abraham Lincoln... "So... other than that little incident... how did you like the play Mr. President!" I am thinking... WOW... half of us had a great time... Hey Fuscat... what a great time you missed!!! |

Damn, I erased all of todays pictures off my camera attempting to copy them onto my hard drive. DOH! Central Buell's new Buell Bike and Accesories section sure is sweet. Had a nice chat with all the Buell enthusiastic folks. And I didn't take a test ride, just putted around the parking lot twice. Griswold bought a ton of accessories and parts, they love it when he comes in the door. I bought the cheapest T-shirt I could find, and a $4 patch. Took my forks off today to get them custom valved since a seal let lose. Before downing it I let an old friend ride it. That thing is LOUD! I heard him 2 miles away then saw an orange pumpkin streak by. That was almost more fun than riding it! He enjoyed himself but is so short he has to paddle the S1 around. 2 weeks without a bike lies ahead, wish me sanity. |

Dennis must be getting REALLY old because that's not the way I remember it. It all started at my place...I woke up this morning with a rhythmic pounding in my skull, and Dennis must've had a rough night too, because he's asking me if I have something to drink and I turn to find him trying to open my Heater. I notice he's not wearing his glasses, which explains all the noise he was making in my bathroom! When a grown man goes in to use your restroom and you can here him say "these don't taste right", you don't ask! I wish I had because I found my Finance's bottle of PMS meds was open, empty and on the counter when I got home. Kind of explains some things! We eventually left for Central HD for me to have my TPS reset. Frank was his usual proficient self, rolled right in spent about five minutes on the shop floor and she's all ready to go. That's when Dennis finally pulls up. The motorized cart you find at the grocery store is faster than this guy! Tripper shows up, snags my lid and goes for a ride on the shop's 12R. In his thoughtfulness he did leave me some nice collateral, a digital camera with all kinds of features, must've been expensive before I dropped it. So i walk back into the shop and the service manager asks me why I'm looking so touristy (camera around neck) and I tell him that "the guy that just left on the 12R wanted me to get a picture of him doing a huge wheelie up the street". nice one Dave! I spent AT LEAST fifteen minutes trying to get Dennis suited up and ready to go. His home health professional must be a very patient person. this guy needs a halfs-heimers check. First he forgets his glasses, then he thinks he can put his earplugs on last, says we gotta stop already for gas even though we haven't gone anywhere....this is going to be one very long day. So here's the gas station episode...It's starting to make sense to me now. As I am standing in line at the register I can see Dennis out at the pump, with his helmet on and standing right behind his bike. This guy just looks shifty! He says "I am glad I did pay at the pump. If any of you stop by the gas station just in Lansing on 7 Hwy... please get my receipt... I had to leave without it!" but what I think he meant, is he had to leave without paying. I guess the pump wouldn't take his AARP card or something. I didn't find out about this..." since I had no cash to pay for lunch" for another two hours. Everyplace we stopped Dennis would "have to check their plumbing" religiously like he was looking for change in the cushions or something. All kidding aside it could be something serious like a yeast infection. By the time Dennis finishes running hwy 5, I've decided that if this is the pace we are setting for the day, I will take him somewhere appropriate. I put my helmet back on, stubbed out my second cigarette, and headed out. We did the lap around wyandotte county park, it's posted 20MPH, Don't ask me how but I lost Dennis again. I half expected him to come around that last corner pushing a walker with tennis balls on the legs wheezing hold that elevator.... I'd had enough by this time, and it was all of about ten thirty. I now know that if you point to something across the highway Dennis will change three lanes behind you, without fail. this little tidbit may come in handy, as I am planning our separation. I decided to make it a war of attrition instead. I remembered how hungry Dennis had said he was early at my house...something about missing breakfast "mediteranian" (realize now it was medication). I asked him at the dealership if he wanted to ride up north for lunch (didn't realize at that time That I had just offered to buy!) I figure he's getting pretty hungry, so I proceed the loooong way to lunch, I showed Dennis my "therapy run", all the roads I like to hit for a taste of twist, when I am by myself. Which at this point I wished I was,, hell I was going to need therapy! I stopped where the gravel started and hoped Dennis would turn back. when he didn't I proceeded to make "Following me" if you could call it that, miserable. I attained a rear wheel speed of about 106MPH although I was only moving about 10. I left the throttle pinned for the whole mile we were on the rocks.....when the dust settled Dennis came putting up beside me and I thought he had died, covered in dust and looking much like the ghost of christmas past. This part of Dennis' story may be true..."white knuckles,no fu*king idea where I was, followed the gravel dust and tire smoke, 20 miles of gravel roads, could hear Sam laughing." I finally give up and decide to get some food. I told Dennis I know of a biker bar where he would fit in perfectly. It's called the Weston Cafe and every geriaitric example of why spandex shorts should be outlawed was in attendance. yep! they were pedal-ers the bicycle kind, which is exactly the sort of pace Dennis was making on the day. I thought Dennis was real comfortable with these people, then I realised he was just waiting for me to pickup the check, because as soon as I grabbed it he was up and ready to go. I can't believe I have shown this guy in the last three hours roads that have taken me years to find. I almost feel cheated, all my hard work(wink) and laborious hours of exploring, thousands of miles in the saddle, and this guy is getting the grand tour. The 45 spur, N hwy,92,K and a host of others....I hope his GPS was broke, because he is exactly the type of rider I don't want to get stuck behind on any of these roads. I told Dennis after lunch that some of my friends were going to be practicing stunts down in KC, and that I would see him later.....I don't know if he was lost or if he really wanted to see them, but the Bastard followed me all the way there. It might've had something to do with his previous quote..."no fu*king idea where I was". I think Dennis enjoyed the show. Having to explain why he kept throwing cans and things out onto the pavement right in front of the guys when they were doing one handed stoppies, was not fun. I told them he forgot his medication and they must've took one look at him and believed it. I saw my bike do some beautiful stoppies(mine aren't beautiful), saw Dan Jackson do the fatsest tightest circle wheelies I've ever seen(his shows are gonna be fun to watch this year!). I was out of places to go, and Dennis.... can't remember his name, is starting to froth at the mouth and has started slurring his speech. I figured I better get him someplace close to a hospital where he could sit a spell. we enjoyed the "scenenry" on the plaza for a little while. I kept telling Dennis that having a badge didn't give him the right to pat every girl on the ass as she walked by, he said that when you get this old the girls aren't as offended, they figure you're harmless that way. I have never heard "I'm sorry I thought you were somebody else" so many times in my life. I was really surprised when Dennis didn't whip out his badge when the cop told us we had to leave. something about too many 14 year olds complaining. I bet he wishes he had brought his glasses, cause those boys were mad! when I left Dennis he looked like he was having a nice nap, and the pidgeons didn't seem to mind him at all. I put a used coffee cup in front of him with a dollar in it so he wouldn't get arrested. I'm not the kind of guy to go checking peoples pulses, someone might think I care. I hope Dennis woke up! |

Damn, Sam I think it is too late! I turned your short story along with a couple of Dennis's to the men in white suits building, they said it's a fact, you are turning into a younger Dennis. Sorry man, we tried to warn ya!! Good luck with those other voices, hope they treat you better than they did Dennis. |

I'm happy to say that I put 250 trouble free miles on my X1 this weekend. Frank put some of that holy water on it and scared the demons out!! Thanks Frank!! Went to the Easyriders bike show yesterday. Some really nice bikes and a lot that didn't belong there. Lots of silicon breasts!! And nothing Buell related.. I didn't expect and Buell stuff but thought I might be surprised.. I got some pics of the two biker build off bikes but haven't taken the time to shrink them down enough to upload.. I might do that later this week. |

Sam, I missed ya today. I was out and swung in by your place but no one one was home. The van was there so you must have been taking advantage of another fantastic riding day as well. Wasn't plannin on it I just took off and at one point ended up out not far from ya. It seems alot of my friends were out enjoying the day today! I made 2 other stops with the same results.. Ahh well, I put down about 185 miles out and around Camden point and a few stretches of interesting back highways in the area as well as around smithville lake all up through NKC and back. I had made a run through shawnee mission park and around and decided to go by to scope out the resurrected XB. Hopefully another time. It was a good ride and I grinned for atleast the next 2 hours! Anybody else make it out today? Where did you go? What did you see? I found some new stretches that I hadn't ridden. It's been awhile since I branched out, it was fun! |

I will be considering a Wednesday evening outing, I need to clock some miles. I am about 200 miles from my 5,000 mile service and I heard if you have it done before you have 5,000 miles they charge you more... and if you go over by even a coupla miles they void the warranty. My goal is to get it just right so that when I roll into the HD shop Thursday evening the odometer rolls to exactly 5,000 miles as it is pushed into the service bay! |
