I unfortunately have laid my '08 XB12Ss down on a routine and calm afternoon ride to the barber's. I believe what caused it was a downshift from 3rd gear... instead of downshifting to 2nd, it appears to have downshifted into 1st. Not sure if anyone experienced that before, but the ensuing lockup wasn't a good situation and forced me to lose control of the bike very suddenly. I was wearing a reasonable amount of armor during the crash, so I walked away from it with minimal road rash and no broken bones, haven't had a chance to check out the bike yet. Hoping that it's repairable, although I'm kicking myself for not getting collision coverage now. |

Hey Mesozoic, The most important thing is that you're ok. Glad to hear that! I've only had my '09 XB12Ss for a short time, but haven't had any shifting issues...the transmission is smooth as silk and very precise in its shifts (knock on wood). Hope the bike isn't in too bad of shape! Keep us posted! |

I checked out the bike today and it looks like the only damage done has been to the left side frame protector puck, shift linkage (shift pedal appears to have snapped off), and the rear passenger footpeg. The clutch lever and CRG mirror on the left side also have a bit of road rash, but that's about it. So... minimal amount of damage, for sure. Not sure of the 3rd to 1st downshift, however... thinking that I should have it looked at professionally, since I'm not really a transmission tech by any means. |
