Anybody seen such a creature? I know it seems counterintuitive, but I'm still thinking about it . |

That's big enough that you need to bore the cases, right? |

Trust me, I know "where" to get the kits. I work for NRHS . Just curious about other riders who have or have seen an 88" Ulysses. I've only seen a few 88" XBs in general, much less Ulys. I ride a lot but I'm thinking about doing the conversion anyway . |

Phelan, OK I have not seen any. My only "experience" is a buddy with a 1400 Sportster. He said the front end would lift off the road at about 120 mph. As for me, making my Uly go from 1203 to 1440, no thank you. I go fast enough already. |

How bout the heat factor with the big bore kits? Any reports there? Curious remark im bout to make but bear with me on this. What are thought processes on a detuned motor? I know everyone likes a lotof power, but if you balanced the squish band, cams compression ratio, and timing to just stay around 80 hp , would that help with ethanol fuels, heat, pinging, etc? It seems to start with, a breather reroute, different valve stem seals for oil control in cylinder carboning and a very tight, oil controlled engine. Not jacking the thread in another direction, just curious as to thoughts that others might have. I know with the limitations of a 5 speed gearbox, a lot of folks are running the xb9 primary but that still raises cruising rpm somewhat. I have a hard time spending that kind of money on abig bore kit when the motor still runs the same rpm, not being able to use that much more power to lower cruising rpm. Not interested at this time in chain conversion sets to take advantage of that much more hp. |

An 88" with all else stock wouldn't be more more than 90 RWHP, especially if you're looking at a lower compression kit. You could have Marc (Purpony) make you a 61t pulley to use with the XB12 gearing to lower cruising rpms more as well, though you may have to get creative to keep the belt tension correct with 4 less teeth. I just pulled and checked my heads after 2300 miles, and I haven't seen any issues with oil leakage using Cometic valve seals, though most of my fill-UPS use Ethanol-free gas as well. I haven't noticed any pinging either, but I did turn down my timing a little and I have custom fueling maps thanks to Fireman Jim. |
