A while back, I bought an FZ6 brake master cylinder to replace the stock Buell part, which is prone to getting slack in its travel. (I'm talking about the as-much-as 1/2" travel before the front brake starts engaging--which is temporarily cured by pushing the pistons back into the caliper.) From what I've ready, the lever from the Buell brake master isn't compatible with the FZ6 brake master, necessitating an FZ6-specific lever. That's all well and good, but I'd like to get a matching clutch lever and I'm not sure where to start. It appears that the FZ6 used a cable clutch so I doubt I can just buy an FZ6 clutch lever and expect it to work on mt 1125. What matching clutch and brake lever should I buy? |

Get after market levers http://www.rideitmoto.com/ CRG, Pazzo, etc.... Now, you might have to buy a Buell set for the clutch and a FZ6 set for the brake, and sell the extra parts, but at least you'd have a matched set |

Fair enough--I've reached out to a bunch of those Ebay lever sellers to see if they'd sell me a mixed set. (The name-brand stuff is too rich for my blood, so I'm gonna try the Chinese knockoffs and hope that they don't suck.) |

I know it is you and your bike and all that fun stuff, but I don't trust Chinese levers with something as important as braking. I've seen it happen more than once on here where someone's brakes locked up and crashed because the Chinese levers were not correct despite claiming they were. |

I've had several sets of the chinese levers from rideitmoto and the quality is there No issues at all, granted it's street miles, not track, and results can vary, but I think they are more trustworthy than random ebay sellers |

You can buy singles direct from CRG, I have done that in the past so you could buy a FZ6 brake and a Buell Clutch or like I needed a ZX-10 Brake and a ZX-14 Clutch when I did the master cylinder upgrades |

Tq_freak - I have been thinking of kawasaki ZX. why did you need different models, zx-10 and zx-14? |

I found the ZX-10 brake master on ebay first while I was putting the stuff together to do the swap. just so happened a month or so later that I found a ZX-14 clutch master from the same year as the zx-10 so the casting colors matched and I didn't have to re-paint them. Also found out in the hunting that the ZX-10 still has a cable clutch so I had to use the ZX-14. |

SprintST, I didn't realize that rideitmoto.com was selling knockoff levers--I just assumed it was selling the high-dollar genuine stuff. I'll probably give them a try. Froggy, out of curiosity, how could an incorrect lever cause a front brake to lock up? |

how could an incorrect lever cause a front brake to lock up Poor tolerance of parts. There is potential for the MC's piston to be slightly depressed by a poorly-machined lever, causing fractional application of the brakes. Over time, this could lead to excessive heat buildup causing expansion of the fluid and further activation of the brakes, causing more heat, causing more expansion, causing more braking... Besides that, they just don't look and feel as good, most of the time. |

Wymaen, the last time I knowingly bought Chinese levers was back in the '90s. The pivot bores in the levers were slightly too large for the pivot bolts, so the levers rattled and flopped around a bit. Not hugely, but enough to be annoying. I get what you're saying about the brake master being partially engaged, eventually overheating the brakes, boiling the fluid, and causing lockup but.. man, I sure feel like I'd notice the brakes dragging even slightly, well before a potential catastrophe. But, point taken. |

No Problem Dannybuell You can find good take offs for a fraction on the price as new masters all the time and thouse along with nice levers makes a WORLD of difference in the brake feel |

Agreed, Flesh. I've never experienced it on a Buell, but I did have it happen on a couple mid-80s Magnas I have had come through my life. Like you said, though, you notice the dragging front brake PDQ. I think someone would have to be pretty ham-handed to ignore it and try to power through... ...then again, I am probably related to more people like that than I want to admit. |

Do you guys know what other bikes the 1125R's clutch master cylinder was used on? Instead of aftermarket levers, I'd be fine with OEM (style) levers. My FZ6 brake master already has a silver OEM lever, and my 1125R clutch master still has the black OEM lever. First thought was to get a black OEM-style FZ6 brake lever, but I haven't been able to find one anywhere--silver OEM or aftermarket-style are all I can find. Second thought was to find a silver 1125R clutch lever, but the only ones I can find are the black OEM ones or aftermarket-style levers. I figure surely the 1125 clutch master must have been used on other bikes, so if I could figure out which ones, I'd have a good chance of getting a silver clutch lever. Then I could skip having to buy aftermarket lever altogether. |

Rocket...have you tried the Uly guys...or looked at different years of FZ6/FZ1 levers..? or (getting desperate) paint the Silver lever with some satin black ...or black Plasti-Dip (spray-on) both levers to make them match...I use the Black Plasti-Dip liquid on my Brake and Shift levers ( mixed with a little sand)...they hold up well and are easy to re-coat...hope this helps |
