I've spent most of my Buell life right here in BB&D land and the QB play place. Now that I'm looking at an Scg, where am I supposed to hang out? This is where I learned most of what I don't know about XBs. I've been looking at the topics and haven't figured it out. How bad is this short bike going to dance on me?
If I replaced my Uly with a Yamaha Super Tenere, I'd probably still hang out here... and likely still get better advice here than I would anywhere else on how to fix it should something go awry.
There are too many similarities to ignore this forum. When I went from the 12s to the 12xt, it's still a very similar bike and many of the solutions apply to both bikes.
If you are in the similar year range, then the engines may even be identical. Are you getting into a 2008+ SCG? If so, you are gold and would be welcomed in any forum
Not much suspension travel on this one. I can flat foot it though. Still sorting the susp. settings out. It was set heavy for me. I'm down to 178 pounds now. I set it for that but it is still a little harsh. May be the nature of short suspension. I don't know for sure yet. Plan on softening it up a bit more. Should I try lighter preload or dampening first?
Nice bike RD. You should soften both the preload and damping enough so you notice a big difference and go from there. Not sure if it has compression and rebound damping.
Mark, Yes, So Sexxxy. Can not believe how good it looks.
Figor, I am getting used to the seat. Lot nicer than the TW200 seat I've been riding since I sold the XT. Try 200 miles on that 2x4.
Dave, I found 36 front and 40 rear. Now 34 and 36. I took another 1/2 line of preload out of the front and took the rear another notch softer. left the rebound alone at both ends then backed the compression out a 1/4 turn front and rear. I'll see what the damage is in the morning.
One of the things I did to the Uly was to put a WOLO dual air horn like the Stebel under the fly-screen. The Scg has less room and a translucent fly-screen. Tonight I have separated the motor/compressor side from the dual air horn side. Plumbing an airline from one to the other should be easy. Now the search is on for a hiding place for the two parts. I don't want to see the parts once mounted. On the plus side, I will not have to run secondary wires from the battery to the fly-screen. Need to find the routing for the OEM horn wires to use on the larger relay going to the new horn. I don't want to run leads back from the fly-screen if possible.
Nice bike! Looks like a low mileage garage kept unit. I was so hooked from my first two mile demo ride on a 2003 XB that I bought a new '05 City-X. Then a few months later the '06 X comes out.....
Did you notice your knees being more bent and more pressure on your hands while riding? It is cool riding a bike that all you see of it is the mirrors and gages with a full face helmet on.
You been running around the garage yelling "the torque is back.....the torque is back!!!"?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Very nice. 10,000 miles, 2 previous owners @ 5k each. Couple of OCD guys thank you very much. Last one was complaining that I bought it too quick and he didn't have time to get it all cleaned up. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was as clean as it will ever be with me. He just had the 10,000 mile service done at Uke's . I would have did it myself and not washed it. Last guy had the Hawk exhaust done. I was concerned, but, I do like the sound of it. Lot quieter than I thought it would be.
A few things are different when compared to the Uly. TORQUE? The bike and I are over 140 pounds lighter than the Uly and I were together. The Uly seamed to let me savor the winding out in first and second. This one has me trying to shift fast enough to stay off the limiter. Not seat of the pants quicker, it is stufid quicker. The ECM is supposed to be OEM. I need to learn TunerPro. With it being a little shorter in height the suspension is less cushy. Shorter in length makes the rocking front rear a little more choppy. I am still playing with suspension settings but know there is only so much I can do without loosing the handling. The shortness front to rear keeps me upright enough on the bars that I haven't noticed any extra pressure on my hands. The knee is bent a little more. I knew that going in and have been doing stretches and working on core strength for over a year getting ready for an Scg. I had an aha moment a year ago while looking at tube framed buells and comparing them to an Scg.
I've been sitting on it in the garage with that stupid grin on my face. I like the first 50 seconds of this Aero song.
Horn Pics This is a 1/4" quick connector about to be modified.
Are you following so far? That modified piece is getting cut in two. 5/16" ID clear tubing will be put between them. with glue/epoxy to secure the connections. I have to go look for hiding places.
The horn part is very light. I just zip tied it to the cross brace. In the Uly there is enough room to just lay the whole horn in behind the fly screen.
It doesn't look this crazy once the air box is buttoned up.
