Or tires for you Americans. I understand these can be bought in the Uly's sizes. Has anyone any experience of them on a Uly? I used to have them on my BMW GS1100. I liked them. Good on-road grip and longevity. And good for mild off-road. |

I think they are OK. I do very little off road. I was going to say I should have gotten more miles out of them but I just checked and the got a hair over 10000 miles on them and I just now need a new rear. Ill probably get the set though because the dealer that mounted mine did a crappy job of balancing. In fact he charged me for it and when I got up to speed it shook real good. I noticed it still had the same weights it went in with and when I took them off it got better but the front tire is scalloped a bit. |

Johnshore, were they the 80/20 on-road/off-road ones or the more recently developed 95/05 XPD ones? |

They are the Tourance Next. I believe they were the latest thing August 2013 if that helps. |

Have them on my Caponord. 6400 miles so far and they are getting loud and beginning to flatten out in the center on the rear. I don't think they do well in gravel or dirt but that might just be the operator as this I my first adventure endeavor. I will say this, the bike is a 2002and these are the original tires. No cracking. That impressed me. |

I put 80K miles on two '06 Ulys, so hopefully I still have some credibility on this forum... I now ride a '13 BMW R1200GSW, which came with Tourance Next tires. I removed them at 3K miles since they wouldn't last thru a long trip I was taking. Well, I recently remounted them (to get the remainder of the wear out of them) and the front has a real tendency to "wobble" from 30-45 mph when I remove my hands from the handlebars (which I sometimes do while taking a photo while riding). Above/below that it's smooth. Somewhat disconcerting. I mount/balance my own tires, so I know it's balanced. Just another data point on the Nexts...also IMHO they don't wear quite as well as I expected. I won't purchase them. --Doc |

I've got a set on my 09 Uly -- These are the Metzeler Tourance Next. I put them on last summer before a road trip. The rear had 4419 on it when I replaced it due to a puncture at the edge of the belt. I don't think this tire had more than another 1500 miles, it was pretty squared off after the trip. I got another of the same as a replacement and it is wearing fine. I find these to be very satisfying on the Uly. They are stable in wet or dry on pavement and quite stable off road (meaning off pavement but not single tracks.) Turn-in is sharp and predictable. I don't have the instability that Dr_greg describes. In fact these tires corrected the same problem I had with the Dunlop D616. I'd recommend them on the Uly although I'll probably try the new Trails when it's time for replacements. |
