On a socket head cap screw, most metric race bikes' bolts have a taper to their socket head. Is there any standard for this taper? Specifically, what's the angle of the taper, and how much material to leave surrounding where the hex key goes in? This is for a 7/16" coarse thread bolt. I see DIN 912 as the spec, but I can't find the tapered socket head cap screws in there. Anybody?
It sounds like you're turning some - you probably would want to copy the dimensions here - Jim from Gardner Westott knows more about the right way to make hardware than anyone. Great stuff.
