Author Message   Sugarmcguinnmsncom Posted on Sunday, April 26, 2015 - 02:04 pm:        OK, so here's the situation... I pulled the wheels off the Uly to swap out some tires. Upon reinstalling the wheels, like a meat-head, I threw the rear wheel (2010) spacer on the drive-belt side, rather than the "proper" disc side. In my defense, the spacer just "fits" nicely inside the bearing race on the D-B side when the the wheel is off, and... this is only the second time I've had the 2010 wheel off the Uly. To the question - Yep, I tightened the axle all the way, and was pretty flummoxed when the rear wheel wouldn't move... I quickly realized the error and fixed it, but as a result of tightening the axle all the way, this happened - See Pic. My question is, does this look OK? Did I just crush the dust seal? The wheel seems to roll fine. I took it out for a 50 mile ride to test... Seems fine... But now it's in my head... Is this bearing going to fail... I suppose since I'm bringing it up hear means it's going to be in my head until I change replace the bearing (Message edited by sugarmcguinn@msn.com on April 26, 2015)   Hughlysses Posted on Sunday, April 26, 2015 - 02:14 pm:        I don't think you could have hurt anything but the dust seal. Putting the spacer on the wrong side wouldn't over-compress the bearings or anything. The lip of the brake rotor side dust seal is supposed to ride on the spacer. That I just crushed the lip of the dust seal that holds the spacer. Thanks for the confirmation, Hughlysses. Your knowledge is always appreciated   Hughlysses Posted on Sunday, April 26, 2015 - 04:06 pm:        I guess it would be worth popping the dust seal out and make sure the external dust seal didn't distort the dust seal on the bearing when it got shoved in. That probably wouldn't be catastrophic, but it might eventually cause that bearing to fail.   Zac4mac Posted on Sunday, April 26, 2015 - 08:07 pm:        With axles, I'm very anal. Paint it with Neverseize, tighten till snug and torque the pinch bolt. DON'T torque the axle... snug only. Zero bearing failures, 70k + Buell miles, XB and 1125. Check the spacer, if it hasn't been smushed you should be fine. Z
