Yeah the blown head gasket was the straw that broke the camels back. I by no means baby my bike (X1) but I always warmed it up proper before given'er. So the gasket should be doing its job? I bought, and you guys are gonna love this one, a new 2003 Yamaha Roadstar 1600. Floor-boards \ heel toe shifter, sissy bar, and saddle bags. Its two tone silver and candy red. I pick it up Friday. Does this mean I'm gonna have to find some new motorcycle friends ??? |

I still have the X1. I'm planning on selling it privately. Gonna take a beating on it though. I think the book value for a 2001 X1 is $9500. Ouch! And good luck finding a buyer for that much??!! ".....i have a feeling you'll be replacing LOTS of floor boards. those things will drag at any lean angle! " That's one thing I'm worried about...getting into a familiar corner at my usual pace, hard parts touching down, and running off the road. That and I've never ridden such a huge bike.

"I need to find one that likes to be spanked" Playing catch-up here, and you guys are killing me. LOL! For some reason haven't received Storm Front mail in weeks.... Caboose, sorry to hear about your bike, but I can NOT see this man happy on a land yacht! (be sure to place your cursor on the images) Not this guy, either. Why not keep the X1 and hang a carb on it? I've got a spare 40mm Khien and stock ignition module from a '98 S3 you can have. Shouldn't be too hard to find a manifold.... Then you'll be able to carry on like this.... Lornce |

That last caption had me busting a gut. Good one Lornce! Both you guys get pretty hungry on the track. I wonder what lap times I could turn on the Yamaha XV1600 If I maintain a steady stream of sparks through the corners, I might just be able to keep you guys behind me . |

H-D still has a orange and nuke blue '98 S1W for sale. You know, with a CARBuretor. Hope to see everyone on the 18th at Paddy Flahertey's in Waterloo! Bring your favourite racing videos. Way to go Chris! Anyone have a copy of the '86 or '87 Trans Atlantic Match Races? It's the ultimate Rainey~Schwantz road show. They're trading paint constantly! Best race footage I've EVER seen. ltr lads, Lornce

Well, nice to see I'm not the only one blowing my head gasket... Figures, the bike was heading into rocky's in less than two weeks to get all the pro-series toys added. Is replacing the head gasket a home-job, or am I stuck toting the blast to London? With divorce under way, I really don't want to spend more money than needed. (And yes, performance parts ARE needed) chris see everyone on the 18th |

Chris, What "pro series" parts are you having added? If they're going to have the head off anyway... Replacing the head gasket should be pretty straight forward, I'd be glad to help you through it. Check the head's hold down bolts and be sure you have the required socket before you do anything else. We'll get ya running again: We're a Buell rider's SUPPORT group! Should we call ourselves the Southern Ontario Buellers for short? The S.O.B's?

Yeah, I like the S.O.B's... but I think we'll need to give out new nick names like: dirty, crazy, old, ugly, lucky, mean..... that way we can say: "hey there goes that mean S.O.B" ... ok, maybe not... Lornce, Yes, Rocky's will have the head off anyhow to put in the new cams, but I am unable to get the bike in any sooner, so I was hoping some "home repair" with gasket sealer will hold for a couple of weeks. I'll let you know when I have all the parts of my bike spread across the lawn... |

I've had both rocker boxes off in my garage. There isn't too much more work after that to get the heads off. The front head being more of a pain due to the isolator. I'm not sure what a Blast set-up looks like. |

lornce, love the S.O.B disignation!! briliant! i really think we should start using it. besides, the guys at cayuga already know not to mess with the SOB's i'm REALLY aching to ride boys! this weather thing aint happening, and all i can think of is a lornce guided tour, from hamilton to hockley! if you've been on one, you're hooked for good until our first ride...

Hey, you sorry S.O.B.'s! Who got some good deals at the swap meet? Thinsulate lined leather riding gloves... $20! An S2 frame side plate. The piece with the side stand boss that *can* break. Cheap preventative purchasing.... And some Dunlop 208 GP's for the S1. Can't wait to heat em up at Mosport in May with the Ducati Clubbers! How about it Caboose? Hang onto that X1 a little longer! You know you'd love it. The sound your bike makes coming up the back straight makes the Ducatis sound weenie. K, how about you? We could run in the "Fast Touring" class. That wouldn't *really* be like going to the track. More of a "Rider Training Programme"..... If *anyone* asks.... John, Brett, you guys into it? There's a class for everyone. Bring the Airehads along,it'd be a fun weekend. Whadda ya say, lads? Oh, and Chris, Rocky's won't have to remove the head to install cams, if the blast is anything like other Buell motors. Let's set up a time and deal with that head gasket. Let me know when you have the parts. Hope everyone's well. Roll on WARM weather! BRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrr.....

Despite my bike trying to kill me in turns 4 & 8 (engine cutting in and out due to a bad engine temperature sensor), cold rainy weather, and lack of riders on the track, I had a great time last year. The bon-fire, single malt, and bench racing Saturday night is one of those "memories" you keep with you forever. If the Buell is still around (fingers crossed) I'd like to do it again. We could use my trailer as home base again. Hmmm...can't find the pics... If any of you guys decide to go, just watch out for this guy!

Well, as always, I'm a bit too eager.... I have the top of my engine apart (quite easily I am add) and now realize what lornce meant by making sure I had the right wrench.... I'm just heading out now to see if i can buy one somewhere... On the upside, changing the cams is so easy, I'm glad i didn't pay someone else to do them! Well, Back to the bitter cold.... Chris |
