I just purchased, limited edition Blue, EBR 1190SX and brought it home Friday. While at the dealer I asked about purchasing the service manual and was told that is only being issued to dealers not to owners and the only RX manuals where available to owners. Sounds like horse sh!t to me, is this true? Also, they said the SX only come with ONE ignition key! If that's true I think it's BS that you have no back up key in case of loss or such nonsense. It is cool that the owners manual is a thumb drive, that's getting with current technology! So all you SX /RX owners whats the deal on these issues. I own two Buells 08' 1125R and 09' 1125CR and have had a freakin' blast riding them. I've got the CR up for sale and using the R for track days. That said both bikes came with two keys and manual (purchased separate) I was certainly not born yesterday and told sales guy I thought he was gravely mistaken on both issues, no way he is right on these issues! |

I bought my 1190RX mid-June. It came with 2 keys. I would LOVE a service manual for it. Last I heard (about 2 weeks ago) was that they are getting close to a retail version of a service manual. However - if I were holding my breath on it - it would look like I was hyperventilating... 1313 |

What a shame. It's bad enough that so many of the dealers don't know shit . . . but releasing a bike without a service manual is almost unbelievable. I keep figuring this can't be true . . there has to be some sort of secret handshake or something. There were such great plans. The local dealer, one of the largest on the east coast is packing it in as of 1/1/15. Walking away from the largest market in the country. Shame. I still find it difficult to believe that folks are passing the mileage for valve adjustments and there is no information available. Having all information centralized in dealers, when you have such a sparse dealer network seems an odd choice. There HAS to be more to this than we are hearing. No one knows where the RS's are and no one (including the dealers" has a clue as to where the manuals are. Any Owners Manual on a thumb drive is lame, in my opinion. Perhaps a thumb drive also . . . but no one ever sat on a toilet reading a thumb drive. I'm guessing there are some HUGE announcements coming from EBR in the very near future. |

Every motorcycle I have ever purchased new .. including my RX .. came with 2 keys ... as should the SX . Somebody had mentioned a while ago that EBR should have given everyone a Free iPad with purchase that included an owner manual and a Service Manual. That would have been nice. I too purchased a new blue 1190 SX and it came with 2 keys. as far as a shop manual I think they should of had them available before releasing the bikes ,and I would much rather have a owners printed manual rather than a thumb drive, Any way Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all. |

So dealership sales calls me after I send email to him and the sales manager and the story is now that "EBR only sent one key due to shortage of keys and a new blank will be available sometime in March 2015 as EBR is "out of stock" of the item". I will then be responsible to get the key cut and coded for my ride, pure BS! This kinda sh!t can only make me wonder how they plan on keeping it all together for supply and demand?! WTF |

>>>>"EBR only sent one key due to shortage of keys and a new blank will be available sometime in March 2015 as EBR is "out of stock" of the item". If I were a dealer . . AND that were 100% TRUE . . . I confess I just would not have the balls to try to sell that story. There have been less than 100 of these bikes sold and they are "out of ignition keys". Like I say . . . . imagine for a moment that you are in Casper, WY on a Sunday afternoon and drop the key down the storm sewer . . .(it's happened) and are told 3 months to replace. It may be true. I have no reason to believe otherwise. But it sounds like total and complete unadulterated bullshit. |

You can get a key blank for an XB at any decent locksmith and I'd imagine they can provide one to match the 1190SX as well. Rather than risk winding up in Court's hypothetical situation due to an incompetent dealer, I'd go get my own spare key made. |

Okay so I contacted EBR, responded: Hello Tim, First off, congratulations on your recent purchase! I think there may have either been some miscommunication regarding the key situation. Our motorcycles ship with and include two keys. If there was a situation where a motorcycle was not delivered with both keys, it will be rectified by the dealer and EBR to ensure that a second key is given to you. The dealership has been in contact with us to ensure that the key situation can be solved as soon as possible. Unfortunately, due to the Holiday season, the person that can give me exact answers about availability or ETA is out of the office, but we can follow up with you when an answer is available. Service materials are currently being finalized for retail release. These servicing materials will include a parts reference materials as well, so separate purchase of those will not be required. While we do not have an exact date when they will be available, we are working to have them available as soon as possible. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us so that we can help resolve any concerns. Thank you, EBR Customer Service So there you have it straight from EBR! So far I'm not trusting much this dealer says! But I know the good people at EBR will set things straight. |

So this is what I sent to EBR in my email about keys and manuals: To Whom it may concern - I purchased a new, Blue 2014 EBR 1190SX from a Michigan dealer, Fastlane Powersports in Mason Michigan on Friday December 19. I was given only one key by the salesperson and told that they where only provided with the one ignition key. I have owned many vehicles include a dozen motorcycles and each and everyone have always included 2 ignition keys. I think I've been hoodwinked by the sales and I am waiting for a response to a email I sent them asking them about the "missing" key, they say they only received ONE key, I believe that to be total B/S. I was also told that there is no service manual for the motorcycle that only dealers are being issued them, what gives with that!? I own two Buell's, one 2008 1125R and one 2009 1125CR and both came with two keys and the ability to purchase service manuals. I can understand wanting dealers to service the unit for the two year warranty but there are always reasons or special needs to do general maintenance on any motorcycle during it's life. I find it particularly odd that with a valve adjustment period required every 6500miles (approx) that no service manual is available, I have done all the valve adjustments on both 1125R and 1125CR with the guideance of the manual and the good folks on Buell Forums. What help can you provide in attaining a second ignition key that I believe certainly should be a part of the "stock" items with the motorcycle. What is your anticipated arrival for service and parts manuals for the 2014 EBR 1190SX? I can provide the VIN number and the key number for the motorcycle if required. I certainly hope that this is not indicative of the customer service to be provided for all EBR motorcycles and that this is a case of dealer training! Thank you for your assistance in the matter. Best Regards, Tim Reeves, Plant Manager, GIC LLC |

Do EBR's come with little blue canvas toolbags like the XB's did? Maybe the spare key is in the baggie and the dealer just didn't see it...IIRC we had a few XB's show up with the second key, and the key "credit card", in the toolbag... |

That's one of the first things I did when I got it home is check the tool bag, no luck. I think the dealer just lost the second key and the id card that goes with it. But as long as the dealer and EBR take care of things like they said they will, I will be happy. |

At the risk of repeating myself, most of the 1190 owners are not on here. There is no place for us here other than the racing thread or the EBR thread. That was doubly true for the RS owners when they came out. There wasn't even much activity on the EBR sub-forum. There are more on the 1190 owners page, and more coming as sales are made, but most aren't connected here. |

1st run was 100, 2nd run was 35 from what I have been told. There are a few at some dealers around the country still, but not a lot. There's at least 1-2 new owners (on average) that join the facebook page every week or so. Of the 240+ people in it, I'd guess at least 1/2 actually own an RS, RX or SX. The rest (I assume) want to know more about them. |

It seems to me that trying to determine a number of units sold from social media would be no more accurate than anybody's wildest guess. For example: Imagine I find a Honda Accord Owners Forum that has 5782 members. What does that tell us about the number of Accords sold? Nearly nothing. The best you could do is comb through all of the various forums, facebook pages etc. and do your best to identify unique owners. If after doing that you come up with a number of, say 157, unique owners the best you can say from there is "at least 157 people have bought EBRs". That gives you a minimum number but nothing else. The actual number is likely to be much larger than anything that can be identified with a method like that. |

There were 100 EBR 1190RS motorcycles produced. There were 35 (OK, now I don't remember whether they said they were making 30 or 35 of these) EBR RS motorcycles produced. The 1190RS is no longer advertised on ebracing.com, only the RS. If the original 100 1190RS motorcycles weren't selling, and EBR only had to produce 100 to make the races, and they sold each one at a loss, why on Earth would they make 35 RS models the next year? That tells me that the original 100 sold pretty well, or that they had to homologate a new part. Or it could be something else entirely. |

I'm just gonna shoot out some perspective here. I got the first 1125R in Colorado, she was delivered to my doorstep 18DEC2007. From that date until July of 2008 I had rough-draft versions of the FSM courtesy of my selling dealer. July 2008 was when the final version FSM was finally released. I had 11,000+ miles on the bike by then. Hang in there lucky EBR owners. Zack |

Zack that was a truly enlightening post. So you say that comparing Buell (Motorcycle Company) to EBR should be a direct comparison? Zack's BMC experience is a data point, I'll give you that - but I would not consider the comparison to EBR to be apples to apples... 1313 |

I have, for the last 30 years worked in the HVAC/R business. The release of products before the availability of technical information, service, or parts manuals, or even more commonly, parts is the industry norm. At least with EBR, if an issue arises, someone at the factory can help with it. We recently had an issue with the electronics in a newly released Trane product, and the engineers had not a clue. We figured it out as a stack failure software issue. It's all a bassackwards way of doing business, but if that is the culture of the company, you just have to deal with it. Production, distribution, sales, support, in that chronological order. |

The 1190RS was released in February of 2011. Just sayin'. I'm a Koolaid consumer but the delays on any service manuals for any EBR model (system descriptions, operational and functional characteristics and parameters, electrical schematics) has at best been extremely long. "Soon" is not a date. |

1313 I didn't say anything other than" Zack that was a truly enlightening post." I didn't make ANY comparisons. The post revealed Zack to be: *An early adopter, *willing to take delivery in the middle of winter in state with distinct riding and NON riding seasons. *A high mileage rider with 11+K in less than a 6 months. *more than a passing interest in doing at least some of his own maintenance Revealed his dealer: * had white glove service even in 2007 * was willing to share what little info they had from the factory on the new bikes * had SOME sort of working FSM guide available to the dealer network at release Revealed members of BMC and possibly EBR MGT: *Were either comfortable or pressured into releasing the bike to market without documentation fully complete. * FSM completion took over 6 months to complete. Don't know where you could arrive at "So you say that comparing Buell (Motorcycle Company) to EBR should be a direct comparison? from any of that. "Zack's BMC experience is a data point, I'll give you that -" Technically Zack gave us that, and yes an anecdotal data point is ALL it is. I didn't draw any conclusions beyond that |

I have had my 1190RX more than 8 months now. I bought the first red one I could find. I was told by the dealer there was a service manual on the memory stick along with the owner's manual. I told them it was a deal breaker if I could not get one. I was traveling when I made the purchase. I did not discover the lack of a service manual until I arrived in Deals Gap. I honestly would not have made the purchase had I known there were no service manuals available. In their defense, I did gripe about it to EBR through email, and they did say they would share info if I need it to maintain my 1190 before the service manual is available. |

I responded to his email: Adam - Thank you for your response, a question on the key, is the key a blank or is it already cut for my ignition? Also, I have noticed when opening and unlocking the tool compartment/passenger seat that the key is very difficult to insert and extremely difficult to remove. I have had to literally bang on the seat with my hand to remove the key . I have tried lock lubricant, but it doesn't change. Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Also, great news on the retail service manual, will you please notify me when these are available? I want to get first on the list for this long awaited service manual, I presume this will be in "book form" and not on a thumb drive? I actually like having the owners manual on a thumb drive, if I need to print anything it is quick and easy! |

EBR responded: Tim, The key is already cut to match your bike, so no need to hassle with getting that done. My best recommendation on the seat lock is to use some lube and work the key in and out of the lock cylinder a few times. We've had good luck with Tri-flow. Also, sometimes the brand new keys have very slight burrs on the edges where they were cut, and this can make it difficult to use them early on until those burs wear down a bit. I've had some success in this situation using a not too abrasive metal brush run perpendicular to the edges of the key to knock those burrs down just slightly and allow for better operation. The service materials will be released on a USB thumb drive in digital form. They will include parts books so there's no need to purchase additional parts reference material. The parts literature includes all torque specs for all fasters as well as callouts for Loctite where required. I'll put you on the list to notify once it is released for sale through dealers. |

Got something in the mail today! Had it shipped to me because my local dealer is 2.5 hours away.
Videos are similar to the 1190RS videos - if anyone is familiar with them - but obviously covering the RX/SX. Two sections of videos; 1 for RX/SX stuff, 1 for SX only stuff. Navigating the engine parts section is COOL! You gotta experience it! I can't explain it. Chassis parts pdf is more refined than what came with the bike or what AF1 Racing has online. Final section is on torque sequences. SUPER GLAD to have it in 'my toolbox'! 1313 P.S. NO bootlegs, so DON'T ask! |

They can only be bootlegged if someone who paid for it decides to upload it so that everyone else can steal it. Even if it were already on the net I'd still would have paid for mine. If I want a company to be around to support their product, then I can't steal from them. Hope mine arrives soon. |

A $100 for it is sort of ridiculous in my eyes. I paid over $20,000 out the door for the bike, now they want me to pay another $100 for the manual. meh. Then again, I can see it from their perspective. Guy paid 20k for the bike, what's a hundred dollars for a thumb drive of a manual, we even save money not having to print it. |

Paying for a factory service or parts manual hasn't changed. I've had to pay for every service or parts manual I have, and I buy both for every vehicle I have or currently own. I'm not sure why there's any expectation that they come free with the bike. I agree it WOULD be a VERY nice perk, and a sweet gesture on the part of ANY manufacturer. |

Ive got to side with the business in most cases of service literature and goodies. If they all of a sudden start throwing in a service manual, battery charger, bike cover, performance exhaust, tall windshield, etc etc etc, where does it end? Eventually the price of the product goes up as a result of the nice to haves and then people complain about the price. What about the guy that buys a bike and wants to only have it professionally serviced? Think he might be annoyed about a price increase on the bike because the nice to haves are now "free"? |

Regardless, I'll probably buy one very soon. Seems very well assembled and helpful, much like everything from EBR |

Very cool, glad to see they had the guts to go electronic. I hope we can all respect the time and energy that went into putting that together. |

Dmhines, the valve adjustment on the 1125R is not very difficult. I have completed 3 valve adjustments on those. The 1190 should be similar. If you are mechanically inclined, have proper tools, and know how to use them, it shouldn't be too bad. The question I would ask is do you have the confidence to do this on a new motor you just paid for? I will be checking my own valves on my 1190 as I did on my 1125R and every other motorcycle I have owned over the years. |

I would think the 1190 is easier than the 1125 for valve adjustment. No frame removal needed to get the valve covers off. |

I am mechanically inclined but IT would be nice to have my hand held the first time. :-) That is why I am curious if there is a video on the valve adjustment or is it just a section in the PDF service manual. |

There's not really a PDF service manual. From the exploration I've done thus far, the PDF's are limited to the parts book, engine parts manual (different from the COOL computer interface mentioned previously), and torque sequences. The videos are pretty targeted to component/assembly level operations. There are separate videos for removal and installation for every operation I've reviewed. The Valve Lash Procedure video is a 13 second video showing and explaining the desired fit of the feeler gage. To get there you'll have to go through how many ever videos it takes to get to that point. Cosmetic Air Box Cover Removal, Functional AirBox Cover Removal and such probably won't need to be viewed as you've probably already done those operations or they're as intuitive as 1125's/other bikes. But other 'deeper in' videos will definitely need to be referred to at least for one's first excursion and possibly as reminders thereafter. Just like anything new (machine or tool), it will take a little time to familiarize yourself with using the service materials. I wasn't smart with my 1125CR and got the shaft when I had a dealer do it's first valve lash check, but I don't think I'll have much issue doing the 1190RX with this information. Of course, I'll have the advantage of having a fellow Badwebber whose done a couple on his 1125R (and has done the procedure on other bikes) as a technical advisor when I go to do my first check on the 1190RX. My help will just be a little extra piece of mind, as with this information I'm sure that I would be able to get through it solo. I'm a firm believer in owning all available service info for all of my vehicles and doing all of my own work on them, so this is why having this information was so important to me. I just consider the cost an investment in my 2-wheel happiness. And, yes, I was a fairly early adopter - pretty much just before any incentives were offered - and I want to be armed with as much knowledge as possible. Knowledge is power, after all... 1313 |

The FSMs have ALWAYS been extra cost and I have always bought them for my vehicles. That said, if you can afford 15-25-35 LARGE for a toy... you can afford the FSM.... shut up and pay the man. I just got a 2012 RS and wonder about a manual for a "handmade" bike. Glad I have a suite of 1125 manuals.... Z |

Perfect sense, at least to me and is the approach I've taken. While the 1125 is NOT the same as the RS/RX/SX, I'd feel safe in using the 1125 hard copy manuals as supplemental info, keeping in mind they are NOT identical. |

Hi I do not know if this is the right thread to post this but this dealing with E.B.R. is not easy I was at the dealership where I bought my 1190SX looking for an oil filter and to make a long story short they did not have any, they ordered some a while ago and were sent XB style spin on filters from E.B.R. Now maybe the mistake was by the dealer instead of the factory, but in any case yesterday the 6th of April the dealership was told by E.B.R. they would have filters in by the 17th of April, , that in my book is absolutely terrible customer service ,and the dealership I am referring to is a successful multi line dealer and the parts manager has worked there for 25 years and he say's E.B.R. is the absolute worse O.E.M. to deal with as far as parts or getting any information from. This is indeed very disappointing and it MUST get better or they (E.B.R.) will NOT succeed. |

Ffbuell, something stinks with this line from the dealer. I would shoot a note to EBR with some details and see if they can help. |

"procedure" is to "know someone at EBR This is simply not true. Dealers who wish to order parts have all the tools they need to do so. |

That is a true statement from the parts manager ! and I personally have called E.B.R. on several occasions and have met some of there dealer rep's, personally I do not make up B.S. nor do I like to be B,S'd by other's all I am stating is what my experiences are and have been and they are very poor from there web site to parts availability to the fact that they have taken forever to come out with service info. for the customer. |

Note sure how this is a case of "...diversity of opinions." It seems to me that "Anonymous" is typically someone in the know, so that's probably straight from the horse's mouth. The problem with the internet, quite often, is that only part of the story is revealed. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not doubting or questioning Ffbuell1's experience. However, I think that if EBR knew of this customer's concerns, they would most definitely want to hear about it and rectify it.

If you cannot get an EBR oil filter right away, try a Harley dealer. The Buell 1125 oil filter is the exact same part. My local Harley dealer keeps a couple on the shelf at all times. |

I buy them either from the Harley Dealer (if they have any), or I buy a few at a time from American Sportbike. Al also has crush rings, etc. too. Good folks and quick. |
