Now THAT was a race!!! Looks like Gigi's Ducatis are for REAL this year. Too bad Matt isn't around... this is exactly the kind of race he used to complain just didn't happen any more with the modern rules. I lost count how many times those three changed the lead. Down to the very last lap too. More, please?? | ||

Just heard Pedrosa may be sitting out the next several rounds. I think his karmic debt to Nicky is already well-paid, so I hope things turn around for him. NOBODY wants to be known as "the best rider who NEVER won a world championship." He's had THREE team mates who went on to win world titles. It has got to be frustrating. Wonder if Lorenzo is reconsidering his switch from X-Lite helmets to HJC? | ||

They commentators said something about the Ducatis getting a few concessions until they won a race, took 2 second places or 3 third places (IIRC). They mentioned a softer compound tire, but Rossi chose a hard front (and rear?) which appears to have been the right choice. Also, did anyone catch the final turn to the finish line? Dovi had the Yamaha right where he wanted, but either Dovi got a little antsy on the throttle and/or the electronics let him down and/or he caught too much of the paint cause once his rear end started pumping, there was no way he was catching The Doctor. The exact same scenario played out the previous couple of laps (minus the Ducati not hooking up) and Dovi blasted past Rossi to the line. That Ducati seems REALLY fast. Bottom line, fantastic race and a performance by the Doctor for the ages. My 12 year old step-son (who rarely picks his head up from the cell phone) actually was engrossed in this epic race. That says alot LOL! Worthy of a second watch tonight. | ||

I have watched this race at least ten times now. I still can't decide if Smith bumped Marquez, or if Marc just sat up to avoid a wreck. Making up 21 places from dead last was a herculean effort for the young champion. It was The Doctor who stole this show, he really was more of a surgeon. The valiant struggle between the three Italians was indeed a fantastic spectacle, easily doubling the value received by attendees. In the end, the scalpel makes it's final cut, and THE DOCTOR IS IN!!!!! He is back, and in a big way. Everybody knows I love Marc Marquez, and even though my money and many bottles of liquor are riding on his results, I would LOVE for Rossi to make this season his 10th championship! | ||

I wish people would think this through...Ducati were given concessions, yes, but there is no way they developed their race program to the concessions. They have stated that their practice times were on normal tires, and that their extra fuel allotment is a non-issue, so now that they are down to 22l of fuel, I would be surprised to see any real performance dropoff. | ||

With three dry-race podiums, Ducati has had their fuel allotment dropped from 24 liters per race to 22 liters. I've heard reports that Ducati has never had to use more than 22 liters since they were allowed their concessions so this really doesn't affect them TOO much. A side note is that both Yamaha and Honda are limited to only 20 liters of fuel per race. Ducati is still allowed 12 engines per rider per season (Honda and Yamaha are only allowed five) and they are allowed to continue developing the engine during the season (Honda and Yamaha have had to freeze engine development once the season started). Ducati is also allowed the "softer" tire which really only impacts qualifying. | ||

Nice effort by Marc, but let's remember he ran wide at the first corner of the race, which means he had the entire race distance to make up the spots. He finished where he should have...right behind the frontrunners. Maybe all the good fortune he had last season will be evened out a bit this year. That Honda is still quick however. 218 MPH, are you kidding me? | ||

let's remember he ran wide at the first corner of the race, While we're remembering things, let's recall a 209mph get-off in warm up session, with a very solid race WIN in the same day last season. I also remember him shattering almost every record there is. I also remember him being a very good sport all the way around when he did lose the occasional race. More than can be said for Jorge. His good fortune is built on a solid foundation of pure race craft. Let's just see what happens in Austin. | ||

Go back and watch the end of every race he didn't win for the last two seasons. Then, come back and tell me what a good sport he is. Even my kids noticed it, time and again. My 11 year old daughter: "How come that guy isn't happy? Isn't racing supposed to be fun?" My 17 year old daughter: "Are those blue guys on the same team? Why is that one acting mean, while the other one is being nice?" My 21 year old son: "has Lorenzo always been a douchebag?" From the mouths of babes, sir. | ||

Marquez is no saint. Many would say he continually rides in the gray area on being too aggressive. You do know in the process of making up those 21 spots he tore off Bautista's brake line? And I imagine some of his passes which weren't televised were slightly on the questionable side. Perhaps it's time for the rest of the paddock to bite back this year...that is if they can catch him.
As I recall, last season he won a whole bunch of times. ?????? |
