Hi guys - got my first Buell (2001 X1) a few weeks ago. There aren't many of these bikes in Australia let alone my part of it (country Western Australia) hence my username. Its fairly low km's at 36,000 and only has the K&N intake with a Staintune can, so its not modified an awful lot. I don't know why I do this sort of thing, but I just finished doing up a Yamaha and promptly sold it when I got the Buell and now I have to figure out/fix another bike! Must be in my nature... Anyway at least I have something a little more classy, unique and powerful. It has been cosmetically well looked after with a bit of carbon here and there however shocks and brakes etc etc need attention. A mate of mine (who also has an X1) has got me on the straight and narrow with regards to fixes for immediate and intermediate attention, as well as highly recommending this forum. Have been trawling the pages for info and tech tips, lots of great info and helpful people here Have ordered the first lot of gear from American Sport Bike and on its way to Australia now. I have paid for and figured out (well, sort of) ECMSPY and have done EEPROM fetch, TPS reset, new iridium plugs and static timing set. It is a little smoother. Wondering if anyone here may be able to email me a full race map/modified map that might be suitable for my bike? I figure that would be the best starting point when I start tweaking it... Thoughts/opinions/guidance welcome, keen to learn |

I'm a born again tuber pilot. Started here with a Uly. Fortune would have it that I'd end up with an M2. |

G'day Mate! Welcome to the forum, Don't worry about Fullauto I know him from a Norton Forum and he is from down under too as you. He has helped the Norton guys out with some Re-cast heads for our bikes that are a true work of art. I think you will find this a great group of guys that are willing to help, First thing you should ask is whats the best oil and also whats the best tires.

Somehow, I think he's well aware of Fullauto. |

The first time I read this thread only the first two posts were up. Now it makes sense . In case you haven't got the memo, tires and oil are NOT the first questions you want to ask, unless you're a pyro . |

Hey thanks heaps guys and yes you guessed it fullauto and I go way back Got the tyres sorted and also the oil. Running Mobil 1 syn for v twins. Not much choice in WA, I tried for the redline however it wasn't available. I had a hard time choosing syn/min but went with syn in the end. Currently having the rear shock rebuilt and have the front wheel off getting a new tyre/bearings and brake pads. Rebuilding the forks while I'm there with new springs. Apart from oil change and brake fluid flush, the only major thing I am going to address is the oil pump drive gear. (on its way) So the bike looks a little scrappy at the moment. Will post a pic when its all sorted. Again, if anyone has a race/tuned map, I would be most appreciative |

Thanks Purpony - downloaded from your site. The 99 one loaded up no worries but there was some sort of file error with the 2001 file, and ECMSPY wouldn't recognise it. No worries I'll run your one first and see how it goes Sent you a response email about a rear pulley/cog. Thanks mate Fullauto, trust you to publicly ask another bloke if he needs some head. Disgusting. |

Well its been a long road to recovery for this bike (admittedly I'm a bit of a fussy fiddler) but now its finished and cleaned up ready to show off. Done: all fluids, stainless reusable oil filter, new front tyre, rechromed stanchions and rebuild forks with racetech springs, new brake pads, rebuild rear shock, oil pump drive gear, make custom bronze alloy brake and gear lever bushes, new philips 120 headlight globe, install original (for Oz) cogs/pulleys, race map, lots of little fixes I've probably forgotten... Just in time for winter, ha ha.
Thanks heaps to all who helped out in other parts of the forum - been some great info out there. Purpony thanks for the maps, I have two that work. Am trying the 99 one at the moment. |

You do good work! I am sure you will enjoy it. How bad are the winters down under? |

Hey thanks to all for the welcome - I wasn't sure of the colour when I first got it but it has grown on me a little The winters here aren't too bad compared to the rest of the world. We only occasionally get sub-zero and when we do its only overnight or just before dawn. It doesn't snow, but it does rain quite a bit. |

Very nice. When I worked at a HD dealership, I used to set these bikes up and test ride them. I loved them and always wanted one but couldn't afford it then. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for one. I've found a 97 S1 but that seat looks horribly painful. Kind of looks like a tree branch and makes me cringe. On a side note, the reason I got to set up the X1's is because I was the new guy and none of the "hardcore" HD mechanics would touch them....lol. Those idiots dont know how much fun they missed. Welcome. Nice to see another well looked after X1 in Australia and it's the right colour too. Winters in Canberra are colder. Cheers |

Hey I know what you're talking about. There's a HD dealership here in WA that are just so reluctant with Buell. Last time I called for a part, they forgot to press the "hold" button while they had a discussion about what I wanted and to put it nicely I won't be going to them if I can help it. Went to another Harley mechanic and he loves them. Will be going to him from now on. By the way, the X1 seat is ok, maybe it suits other owners' backsides nicely but I find myself riding forward into the tank over bumps. Went for a ride with Fullauto the other day and we swapped bikes. He has the Corbin gunfighter seat and it is very nice. I'm saving for one now with a back rest for the missus. Now I have been bitten by the Buell bug, I'd go an S1 if I could find one and just stick a Corbin seat on it. If you're in Oz there's a nice red S1 in North Geelong been on Gumtree for ages. It's got header wrap on it and the rear belt looks a little tight but looks fairly tidy... Hey AusX1er I have heard about winters in Canberra. Serves you right for living with the politicians... ha ha |
