2004 R1's read this. how would you know if its been set up properly. heres a quoteThat was from a guy off the R1 forum. The bike had 10 miles on it spun a rod bearing, broke a rod and some other stuff. He works at a dealer in Atl. GA. Said they wouldn't give him a new bike or motor but they are rebuilding the old/new one. Pretty sad for bike with only 10 or 12 miles of no hard riding. I think they blame him for not breaking it right or something.

The sad thing is that the magazines will praise Yamaha for taking care of the problem, while tearing down Buells for being "Unreliable". I really find it interesting that magazines that were quick to point out Buell's flaws and harp on the recalls are now praising Honda for the quick and efficient frame repairs under warranty on the Lead Wings. |

10-12 miles & it broke a rod? And they claim it wasnt ridden hard? BS, I know how folks treat dealer bikes. |

My sons V-max also lost an engine to failure of a scored piston with low miles, under 5000. Yamaha chose to rebuild the engine at the local dealer and its been all right since. Also if you've been watching Two wheel tuesday and their long ride on scooters; what a mess with those trying to lodge a few miles cross country. |

Who ever said Buells were unreliable!!!!! Mine is very reliable, I drive it hard and am always smiling. This is the third season on it with 40,000km (10,000km were in two weeks) and I have had no major breakdowns. I don't consider an isolator a major breakdown just a minor inconvenience!!! |

Don't forget Crusty.. Buells recals are volentary and most others are done as a result of the safety commision. |

I know. It just galls me that Buells get put down by the press for things other manufacturers get praised for. The crappy frame "recall" by Honda is being referred to in a positive vein, while Honda's applying a cheap and half-assed band aid for a fix. Buell could have saved a lot of bucks in '99 if they just had Joe's Welding down the street throw a bead on the swingarm, instead of replacing thousands of swingarms. But Buell got a bad reputation and Honda gets commended for its "excellent customer relatioms". |

This sounds like history repeating itself ,only it was bad ole Norton's breaking and "better than sliced bread", can't do anything wrong,Honda. There has been countless times that Jap bikes messed up and there was no press.I can't type that much!!!! |

I'm glad someone started this thread, it amazes me that the general consensus is that the Japs have such superior engineering that if something breaks it must be the users fault. Nonsense !! I have friends who refuse to buy American cars because they think they are crap but their Jap and Euro cars are in the shop and they don't complain, I don't get it. Prior to my old used Buell I only had Jap bikes and every one had some major problems, some brand new which the dealers refused to fix. I don't get it. |

Magazine quote That Lump of a motor. I have had problems with all of my imported bikes for over25 years of ownng them. They are not trouble free rergardless of what the ragizines say.. The only real problem Buell has now is at the dealer level (not enough good ones). Most riders buy the flavor of the week. It is good to see this thread thanks Brian. |
