i emailed him the same questions and this is the response i got The dampers are rebuildable, but we strongly recommend that they be returned to us for that service. The oil type and quantity are critical to proper function. I just want to take it apart to anodize it black. He was $175 to do so. it cant be rocket science. Definitely needs a special tool to do it, to unscrew those end caps. His price goes up every year, 175 is borderline robbery. |

I bought a universal damper on eBay for $30, a fork clamp for $20, and welded a nut to the frame to screw the back in. I had a Storz damper once and one from the other big name brand for tubers, though the name eludes me. Can't tell the difference. Mine is already anodized black. The only thing is this one is relatively short so I had to get creative with positioning to keep my full lock to lock steering radius. |

Anybody used these from Shindy? probably not as many settings as the ones from Storz but if your not racing ... are these a quality product, yet cheaper due to fewer settings or???? offered by American Torque but not made by them. I've ordered from them before and have always been happy with what they are selling, just have no experience with this brand of steering dampner..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/GOLD-BUELL-STEERING-DAMPER -COMPLETE-KIT-S1-X1-S3-S2-M2-CYCLONE-/271811724792 ?hash=item3f493dc5f8&vxp=mtr |

I have a Shindy damper on my Suzuki Bandit 1200. Works great. No headshake at all. They are from Japan and seem to be top quality. Rebuildable too. |

I have one of the American Torque units on my xb9, it's well worth the coin. Not a week after I installed mine, I managed to hit a brick on the highway at about 70+ mph. Would have been a tank slapper for sure if not for that damper unit. |
