I'm not a big fan of "baggers" but after owning a couple Ultra Electraglides and coming back to Buells I think the next time I want full size storage like an ultra I'll add it to an S3T (might do that with my '97) Of course I would do so in a manner that would allow it to be returned to it's original condition. If a person did have a thing for baggers, it seems like starting with a Buell would be better than starting with an overweight underpowered Harley tourer. Just my 2 cents | ||

I actually think its a very well done bike, with the exception of the ridiculously gaudy front wheel. I wouldn't chop up an S3 to build it, but I would love to build something like that for my Dad if I had the funds and means to do it without dumping crazy $$$ at it. | ||

And you can do it without butchering the bike. That bike is well done but they had to destroy a really well built bike to do it. Why these guys can't just build them from ratted out sportsters I just don't know. | ||

We know why they do it, we just don't know why it is what it is. Resale prices on tubers are terrible and they have the better motors, suspension, brakes, etc., whereas resale value on Sportsters is still higher and they are anemic in comparison. | ||

I think the fatal flaw for a tuber bagger is that the realr isolators are sensitive to being overloaded. | ||

I've heard that but it didn't seem to be a problem when I had my S3T, wife and I weigh around 300# with gear and then figure 40-50 pounds of gear on a road trip. (Hey a girl needs "stuff"!) I've done searches on the Old School Forum and it didn't really show up there.. although I think front isolators can fail if you run with worn rear isolators but the simple solution is preventive maintenance. | ||

My theory is based on anecdotal evidence of two different bikes that only seemed to sh!t out their isolators when loaded for touring, one is SportyErics, the other was the Frog....One an S2, the other a S3T. If your's holds together, great. I love touring on my S3 but I keep the luggage situation to a minimum by removing my passenger pegs.... | ||

Excessive width between the isolator mounts may contribute to repetitive rear isolator failure. | ||
