I'm making a work trip to bay area in mid-April and was hoping to avoid renting a car, but I'm not seeing many affordable options for renting bikes. Not sure if there's a good way to do peer to peer bike rentals for a week, but figured I'd see if anyone on the board had any ideas? |

I've rented motorcycles in the past, and in my experience, they're not an economic option - always more expensive than renting a car. I took a quick look on Google, and found a few options w/ bikes in the Sportster 1200/Honda Shadow 750 realm at about $100 per day. And honestly, that's about the minimum I'd expect to pay given the maintenance and upkeep on a bike (compared to a car) to keep it safe to ride. That being said, I live in the SF bay area and motorcycle is the absolute best way to get around here. Not to mention, there's some incredible riding that can be done when you have some free time. I'm not sure if renting a bike is a good value for a week if you're going to be working for much of the time and the bike's just going to sit. You may be better off figuring out an economical way to get yourself around during work hours, and rent a bike for a day or so when you get the free time to use it. The sites I looked at had the same daily rate regardless of if you were renting for a day, or a week. |

If I had your opportunity, I'd rent the car (you'll stay dry while "working") then, if you can swing the extra days, rent a bike and vacation for however long you can! |

Y'all are definitely right about cost, but sitting in traffic in CA sounds so much less appealing than filtering on a motorcycle (even if it's sitting in traffic in a convertible). Was hoping there was some underground network of rider-to-rider motorcycle renting that I didn't know about, but guess I'll have to just suck it up and do four wheels. |

Or, with the prices the buells are being sold in the States, just buy one! Sell it after the trip (Message edited by Rjn on March 22, 2015) |
