Erik was sad. He called me very early that morning and we talked for 15 minutes. My comment to him . . . "we've been through some tough shit in the last 20 years . . . this may be up there on the list but it's damn sure not #1" His concern, from the moment (just several days ahead when he started hearing rumors) was the well being of the roughly 200 dedicated and hard working Elves. Erik did some extraordinary things, on a personal level, to insure everyone kicked from the Harley-Davidson plane had a parachute. During the time he was doing that he was in a bit of a daze. During that time a small group had already begun laying in the parts and pieces that would become EBR. There were, predictably, some amazing stories that arose during those days. If there is a next book . . .many of them will be included. They are, doubtless, among the most amazing stories of Erik's personal fortitude, commitment and entrepreneurship. Anyone who hasn't been that sad at some timeS in their life is not pushing the limits of life enough. Erik and I have both had much lower lows . .. and knowing how to recover is an acquired talent. | ||
