Hello All, Longtime lurker, first time poster. I have encountered an issue with my bike that has stumped me. ('08 1125R, 9000 ODO) One evening I pulled her into my garage after a great day of riding, nothing notable happened. The following day, I turned the key on and after fuel pumps did their thing, I pushed the start button. - Nothing happened. No click, no attempt to turn over, nothing. Lights and everything came on Ok, but I checked voltage anyway ... Normal. All fuses checked out, relays were good (I swapped some around and there was no difference) I took apart starter switch and checked contacts .. OK. I tried every combination of clutch in/out, kickstand up/down, definitely in Neutral. every other electrical component is functioning flawlessly. The bike has not been ridden in rain / through water, and is kept in garage when not in use. I have ridden regularly since I purchased with 3000 miles on her. Has anyone encountered this before? I read through a ton of posts that came up when I searched for 'starter issues', but most posts I saw were regarding different situations.. Thank you!! |

How old is the battery, was it on a tender. If you have a battery's plus near your house they can check it for internal resistance and condition for free. |

Battery is new. Installed maybe 2 months before this occurred. Not on a tender. As I previously said, the lights and everything else seem powered up fine, voltage checks out, and absolutely no noise occurs when I push start button. |

First thing to check is the igntion switch these break quite often. one wire under the cover will be loose. thats after you check fuses////I just read and pasted this from a buell blog.He said a torx head can remove this.I don't have a 1125 bike just to let you know.Trying to help.If you have the manual I would use a test light and follow the flow chart for no start.Do make sure all grounds and battery etc connections are good. |

May sound stupid but did you recycle the Kill Switch a couple of times then shut her off. Turn her back on with the Kill Switch in ON position. I had this happen once a couple of years ago on 08 XB12SCG and I did just that. All has worked just fine since doing so when it occurred. Since then, I never kill the bike with the KILL SWITCH. I just turn the key off leaving the SWITCH in ON position all the time. Worth trying. |

No luck with the kill switch cycling.. I double checked for loose terminations, everything looked ok. I will do a point to point with the flow chart later this evening.. Thanks! |

Seems time to start at the beginning, so to speak. The disclaimer- I have tubers and an XB, so no experience with your bike. On my X-1's, the wire from the handlebar to the starter is green. Unplug that wire at the starter, turn the ign and start/run switch on, and confirm 12V at that connector when the start switch is pressed. If you do have 12V, then all of the 'control' circuit is in good shape. The problem lies with the starter. If you don't have 12V there, then something is not right with relays, wiring, the start switch on the handlebar, ect. Hope this helps, Dave |

So I got back into it over the weekend... It seems I am only getting 5v to the clutch switch and side stand switch. I had thought I should be getting 12v? I went through all the flow charts for no start and everything seems to check out... This really is a head scratcher... I must be missing something... All grounds are secured, fuses all good, checked my relays-even replaced them just to be sure... It sucks, because o can't find a shop that will even look at it... |

Take the battery out and have load tested at the autoparts store. I've had batteries last over 5 years and had batteries last only 3 weeks. The voltage can measure good but they can lose the ability to provide sufficient cranking Amps. Beware though. Some electrical problems can cause the battery problem. That's probably why I had a new battery go bad in just 3 weeks! But you gotta prove the battery next after checking for loose grounds and battery terminals |

So the battery is fine. I ended using a little #16 awg to jump 12v from battery to two points on my relay block (one point on ignition relay and one point on start relay) Landing 12v on start relay allows my headlights/brakelights/horn to work, and landing the 12v on ignition relay allows me to start the bike using the yellow startswitch.. It starts and runs fine when I have the jumper in... Went on a 3 hour ride yesterday, came back, and battery sits at 12.95v when fans turn off.. I found a place that will look at it with me... It's an odd problem... |

Maybe corrosion on the relays or fuses? |

Try starting while doing wire harness wiggle test. You may need to be jumper to a car with car engine off in order to not fry your bikes electronics |
