Hi everyone,

I have a question about adding an Eric Buell racing ECM and exhaust to my stock Ulysses. I have an '06 Uly that I want to put a drummer exhaust on and an Eric Buell ECM. I have read that I need to do a TPS reset and that needs to be done at a dealer. Is it possible to just put on the ECM/exhaust and then ride it to the dealer for the TPS reset???? OR is it possible to put the exhaust on then ride to dealer and have them install ecm and redo tps? I'm guessing the install of the ECM is pretty much a plug and play type deal???? Just trying to weigh my options before I go and spend $1k on parts.

Main reason I am asking is because the HD dealer always treated Buell's like a stepchild and they aren't very happy to mess with Buell's. I would VERY much prefer to install it all at home and just ride it up there for a quick reset. If I could do it all at home would be perfect. I have read about ECMSPY but I only had mac's so I don't think that an option for me.

Any information would be GREATLY appreciated. I am having some pretty serious back surgery soon and am trying to get any significant mods I want to do completed prior to surgery.

Lee, I am in Memphis and have an 2008 XB12XT. I use ECMDroid and a bluetooth adapter to access the ECM on my bike. If ECMDroid will work with the EBR ECM, I should be able to help you.

I have an EBR ECM (not yet installed) and the instructions for my year suggest it is a very straightforward job (just have to reset TPS), but that's an easy job on the 08- bikes.

Actually, does EBR even sell a Race ECM for the early bikes?

Sending you a PM.
Jurgen

yeah they can put a map on an ecm for my bike with the exhaust and air filter upgrades. So if you think it will work then I will go ahead and get the exhaust pulled off and shipped. Thanks for the offer!!!! I imagine it will be several weeks until I get it put back together.

If you are willing, a $35 cable and some old free version of ECSpy will get you doing your own TPS resets.
I went for the more expensive $200 VDSTS route many years ago, and it paid for itself quickly by never paying for TPS from a (now non-existent) dealer.

But, if that is not something you care to do, and you want to have a dealer to TPS:
Install the exhaust, NOT the ECM, and ride it to the dealer.
The TPS reset needs to be done immediately upon installing the new ECM, as the bike likely won't be ridable (or at least won't idle) until TPS is reset.
Running on your new exhaust won't hurt anything for a little while (and probably wouldn't for a longer while either, but sounds like you want the EBR ECM, so go for it!).
Just make sure the dealer does the ECM swap/TPS reset with bike still warm for best accuracy.

If you can't get the TPS reset by one of our helpful members here, both muffler and ecm are easy jobs...

Do the parts swap in the dealer parking lot, roll it in the the TPS reset and you're good to go.
