Hi, this is my first post here. I'm a new buell owner and learning the hard way about fouling plug issues. I have an 03 firebolt xb9r and I guess I blipped the throttle to much while riding in town. When I stopped it wouldn't start back up. Also a plug wire was loose on the box and the other wire was corroded where it attaches to the plug. So I think I found the problem. Need to replace the plugs and plug wires. But I discovered this nipple while looking around under the air box. Nothing is connected to it and I can't find anything to connect to it or any other place not connected. Any ideas what it is? I have ridden the bike about 400 miles since I got it last week. It has ran perfect until it wouldn't start. I cleaned the plugs but it's running like crap right now... Waiting to get plugs an wires this weekend

Something that needs to be capped! I forget what size I used, but I spun a tap down in there and put a set screw in because I kept losing the rubber vacuum caps. (Message edited by greg_e on January 27, 2015) |

I'm not exactly sure. But it may be a port to test the fuel injection. I know cars have them. |

if that's the case it doesn't connect to anything. just put a vacuum cap over it to keep the valve clean. |

I think It's for the emissions canister. So, yeah ... Cap it |

Mine lost that cap also. I put a short length of tubing on it with two cable ties (one to hold it on the post, a second to squeeze the end of the tube shut). I might have stuffed a small screw in the end of the tube as well to plug it, I can't recall. |

That nipple is a "ported vacuum" source Calif evaporative emissions. The passage in the throttle body is just above the throttle plate in the closed position. When you crack the throttle. A small vacuum is present at this port. This weak vacuum is connected to the charcoal canister, so as to vacuum the unburned fuel vapors and keep the canister dry inside so the activated charcoal can do its job. This port is unfiltered and should be capped. However, if left uncapped and unfiltered, it will likely plug with debris sooner than later. Thus effectively capping the passage solving the to cap or not to cap dilemma. |

Teeps' post is correct. The cap easily comes off, hence why they are often missing. |

It might have been a 10-32 tap and set screw that I used, either that or a 4-40 since I can't remember the diameter of that port. All I remember was thinking how nice it was that I had both a tap close enough to work, and a set screw to turn down inside to plug it. The more I think about it, the more I think 4-40 is the size I used, the 10-32 was a different port I put in downstream with the hope of someday building a ram air intake and adding the manifold pressure sensor and programming the ecm for the change. |

Wouldn't a little blob of silicone or epoxy be better than one of those caps that pop off so easily? |

Thanks for all the info... I'll go ahead and cap it. I did put a small hose on it and blew into it, it was not plugged off yet and air did come through it and out the throttle body... trust me I learned my lesson about blipping the throttle. |

Magnecor makes a nice set of 8 mm plug wires for the bike. |

It is a vacuum source for the charcoal cannister, not meant to be open. Plug it! |
