Would one of you with the '09 - '10 fan logic and ECM Spy please take a look at the switching points? I'd like to try the later programming but don't know what the original settings should be. Thanks |

Wait, there's an ECM Spy that works on the newer bikes? Where did you get it. I thought only TunerPro would work, which I still haven't been able to load properly. |

The current version 2.x, available from the ECMSpy website seems to work just fine. It does not (seem to ) have the graphic display that was available with v.1.x, but from what I have read, it is much easier to edit with the newer version. |

What switching points do you want? Ive lowered my key on from 220 to just 210 and with cool weather for now rode to work yesterday morning, 70-75 mph, 50mile ride on freeway, and fan never came on. A data log of late show max temp of 198 total while riding. So , as of now, at temps current , 210 on is good setting. |

I am interested in the switching points for the last ECM update from Buell. The logic that has the fan not running after shut down, but DOES have the fan running during much of low speed riding. There should be a series of speed/temperature steps. |

Mark_weiss. You need the later (FULL) Buell ECM update for your bike. Just changing what you are saying is NOT enough as there is a LOT more in the update than just that. |

I was wondering when a 08 plus person would speak up. Mark, When it comes to ecmspy, there are not many who participate in discussion on this board. There are those who know but just don't participate on this board. A bit inexplicable but nonetheless well within their rights to stay mumm. I step up, but I have an 07 12x and can't help with 08 plus. however, any learning to be had , I'm game for. it doesn't matter what, I still love to know the what and where of what makes this things tick. Good luck and holler back with what you find. |

For now, all that I want is the fan logic. I want to assess the change to see if it will be a benefit considering the temperatures in which I ride for half of each year (Phoenix, Arizona). |

I am finding that things are not as straightforward as they appear. I decided to try one change, allow the muffler valve to activate at less than wide open throttle. I un-checked the WOT only box and got the result that I expected, the valve now opens or closes each time the rpm pass through the listed ranges. So far, so good. Next, I decided to try lowering the temperature at which the fan will switch on. Edited the "key on, fan on" temperature box, but found that the new data will not "take". When I tab out of the box, the temperature reverts to the factory setting. |

Here you go. I'm not sure if all the parameters exist on the older firmware, hence the need for a reflash. Here are all the fan related values I found in TunerPro Fan duty cycle period: 25ms Fan feedback number of errors: 100 Fan feedback off time before test: 1ms Fan key-off maximum duration: 3 minutes Fan key-off minimum voltage: 11.5V Fan key-off off temperature: 170C Fan key-off on temperature: 190C Fan key-off run delay: 1 second Fan key-off run duty cycle: 40% Fan key-on off temperature: 180C Fan key-on on temperature: 220C Cooling Fan Configuration Enable battery voltage control for fans: not set Cooling Fan Configuration Enable proportional cycling mode (not PWM): not set Cooling Fan Configuration Fan 2 is primary fan when not alternating: not set Cooling Fan Configuration Enable speed based fan thresholds: SET! (I believe this is the one you want) Cooling Fan Configuration Use fan duty cycle table for extended idle: not set Cooling Fan Configuration Enable fan 2 (left) output: not set Error Mask Byte 0 Cooling fan 1 (rear or right) short to ground: Set Error Mask Byte 3 Fan 1 (rear or right) short to supply voltage: Set Error Mask Byte 8 Fan 2 (left) short to ground/broken wire: Not set Error Mask Byte 8 Fan 2 (left) short to supply voltage: Not set Stored Errors Byte 8 Fan 2 (left) short to ground/broken wire: Not set Stored Errors Byte 8 Fan 2 (left) short to supply voltage: Not set Map 3D fan duty cycle map: All values 100 Axis Fan Duty Cycle Map Battery Axis: 0 - 13.5, 1 - 12.7, 2 - 12.2, 3 - 11.5 Axis Fan Duty Cycle Map Temperature Axis: 0 - 70, 1 - 80, 2 - 90, 3 - 100 Here are the tables in image form so I don't screw up transcribing:
The key changes you will need are the tables for Fan VS On/off temperatures, and the configuration set to enable speed based fan thresholds. I personally run my bike with a mix of old and new fan logics, I started with the new fan logic, then changed the fan key off temperature settings to match the old programming, resulting in me retaining the fan running after shutdown. |

Thanks Froggy, that is the information that I wanted. Particularly the vehicle speed tables. Now, I just need to figure out how to enter the data. Using ECM Spy 2.x, it looked as if I would simply type in the actual parameters into the information pages, but now I'm thinking that I may have to locate the appropriate cells in the EEPROM table. |

in the spy program, when you change a value in a field, then be sure to hit enter. that locks fields in and after all changes, then burn changed eeprom to ecm. that's the way ive understood it and they way I have adapted. I have not tried tunerpro yet but its bound to be different. one project at a time |

I was looking for a "save" button. I'll try 'enter' next. Since the check-box worked without added input (other than burning at the end), I was not sure what to do for data entries and was reluctant to make a mistake with my daily transportation. |

One thing to doublecheck what the system has done, go to message header and look down the notes to see what you have done. I do that a lot to see if ive done something i did not want to. That is to the right of eeprom header. |

I managed to adjust the fan on and off points, just to make a simple and reversible change. Pressing "Enter" did the trick. Afterward, I returned the temperatures to the originals. Next, I tried the 'speed based fan action'. Checking the box grayed out the 'Temp Based' specs and highlighted the 'Speed Based' side, but there was no obvious way to enter data. I was able to make the data box 'highlight' but typing numbers did not work and no data cells appeared. There must be another location in which to enter the temperature and speed data.

That certainly keeps fan running all the time. My key on is 210 and key off at 170. With mlv ive seen my clt hasnt gotten over 198yet. Of course summer is on the way and all that will change. What temp does your cold start enrichment go to 100% mark? |

My original temperatures are On at 235, Off at 195. I only used the 160 setting so that the fan would go on as I rode around the block. |

Warm-up correction is down to 100% at 180 C. This is from a 2008 X with all but the final ECM updates. |

For one, learn how to work with ECM Spy. Beside that, I now commute in a region that gets quite hot (100F+) for four months out of the year. I'd like to find a solution that is more comfortable for me and is also favorable to the Ulysses. When I commuted in a cooler climate I did not really care about the updated programming. After returning to Phoenix, it is another matter. A few years ago I inquired about the updated programming with a shop that still displayed the Buell sign. After they find someone who understood what I was asking, I was told that the programming could not be restored to the previous setting once they had made the change. I declined. Now, I have a computer capable of running ECM Spy and have renewed interest in the question. Is the newer programming better for the engine or is it just nicer for the rider? |

Mark ; have you gotten to any datalogging with megalog viewer yet? Ive gotten lost as to accepting new file that ve analyzer suggests. I save it but our ver 2 does not seem friendly at that point. Old instructions are to save file , copy rear fuel map, paste over front map and add 2 to complete maps. Resave, back to spy, copy into map area and burn to eeprom . Some instructions were to use notepad, some say to use excel. So far, i havent got it down. Im playing with a datalog or two that im not sure i did right either so im not burning any of this to ecm. Playing safe. |

No logging as of yet. I'll be away from home for the next few weeks and won't have the opportunity to work on the bike until I'm back home for long enough. |
