Chris it will not fit a '97 without modifying the frame. The frame tube is lower on '95-'98 Buells than '99-'02, because the exhaust runs over the frame on '95-'98 and under the frame on '99-'02.

Phelan..... I just noticed thaty header is cracked in several places around the collector. I also need to find a "y" bracket since mine still has the recalled bracket that's known for breaking

Jeff Caco (Jefc73) has a header that will fit your bike in the '98 S1 parts listing a couple listings down from this one.
