Keep in mind Estes Park has thousands of visitors in the summertime so traffic can slow down to a crawl often in the area. That said, 2eagle resort looks like a nice place from the site, though I've never been there. (Message edited by phelan on January 21, 2015) |

I would imagine that any scenic byway in the area will be packed with tourists on that weekend. Our one way ride to get there is going to be in excess of 1600 miles so we will have plenty of other opportunities to wind it out. Mostly just wanted a place we can build a fire and sit around at night imbibing and bs'ing. I suppose that you (Ross) will be staying at home but you are welcome to come up and join us. Enough of the units have kitchens that the lack of a local eatery should not be a problem and we can pack in plenty of food and spirits. Plus, it is 420 friendly for those who choose. We are riding in on Friday and getting settled, riding down to the shop on Saturday and then somewhere for lunch and a ride about, Sunday a ride in the mountains, and leave Monday morning. By the time we get home it will be close to 4000 miles of riding. |

Sounds good Shane; my wife and I will more than likely sleep at home but I'm sure we'll come by there at some point for fellowship . |

it is a bit more than just a scenic byway. It is the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. That is why it is so busy. Us locals tend to avoid those roads on weekends as much as possible as the tourists will just slam on their brakes in front of you for any reason with no regard for anyone behind them. |

That is okay. It is just a highway to get back and forth to town. You want to see busy, try Yellowstone in July and August. Or the Black Hills in early August. Or the Puget Sound I5 freeway anytime of the year. That one is more dangerous than any other road I have been on outside of the LA basin. At least in LA you can share lanes and avoid the worst of it. I think I can deal with the 10 mile ride down to the flatlands. |

I think we've got a place that's great for this sub-group. Parking close to the room. Good surroundings. A place outdoors to socialize. There may be better, but by the time we spent hours looking for it the availability would be limited. Rooms are booked. Next up, where do we want to ride? :-) |

This will be a good 'un. i actually went out to Denver last year to pick up a bike - the adventure actually made it into the press. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/284/19552/Motorcycle -Article/Dr--Fraziers-Old-BMW-Pig-in-a-Poke.aspx The guy I bought that olde R80 g/s from is real old school long distance guy, author of several books and a general moto-journalist. We got to be friends over the adventure of that bike purchase (despite his Indian Motocycle fetish colliding with my strong anti-Indian bias), and I'm looking forward to seeing him again while I am out there. Oh yeah! There are three bikes on my short list, and I have managed to get two of them...a Buell S2 and a BMW R80 G/S. I call her "Glenna the Golden Goat" - and she is my designated lane splitting commuter - the 21" front makes for nice light low speed steering compared to the 17" on the Buells. I did a quick rattle can repaint and had a local artist pinstripe it - I wanted more conspicuity. Notice in that picture in the article (taken in Denver) the Buell Blast saddlebags I used for that trip. I changed them out for some leather bags. Here is how she currently sits.

Lynrd, is that a horse saddle, or a MC saddle? Just curious, looks fun! |

That is a horse saddle, something I am playing with. I also have the stock orange one up seat and a black 2 up seat. Found that saddle at a garage sale for $20 with the pad and blanket, thought it was a good looking piece of leather and was going to use it to make a seat cover, but then I threw the saddle on the bike on a whim. Turns out to be a good riding posture but I am still working on a clean mounting system - need some bar risers too. |

I checked out a motel Dan was telling me about on 34 in Loveland just west of the lake with a Harley logo on the sign. Turns out that's the Jade Inn, so it's not in Fort Collins but Loveland. No one was in the office when I went by there but there were cars in the parking lot, so its still in biz for sure. |

We have arranged a motel if folks are looking for where to stay. It is called the Jade Inn in Loveland Co. It is a very biker friendly, privately owned, small motel with only 12 rooms. Price range from $69-$90 a night and they have some rooms with full kitchenettes if desired. If you would like to reserve a room please call soon as like I said they only have 12 rooms. Tell them you are with the NRHS Buell gathering. Their phone number is 970-667-1753 |

THAT is an INCREDIBLE photo!!! The single shot version of that with the blue bike is what finally pushed me over the edge for an S2!! I've been trying to piece this together, did the math on mileage and figure with a baby and a new mom it's actually a 4 day trip each way for me..... Otherwise Id have reservations made and probably already be packed! I'm just not sure I can subject my wife and baby to 8 solid days in a car in a 11 day trip.... |

You could leave the wife and kids home, ride the bike, and shorten the trip. Not so sure that they would enjoy that car ride. |

Well, those of us who are committed to the continuance of the S2 Rally are settling in at the former 2 eagle Resort. They just changed the name to Stoney River Lodge http://www.stoneyriverlodgecolorado.com/ We already have 9 of us headquartered there (all former S2 Rally attendees). Still lots of room. But if you prefer an urban environment and want to stay in town, then the Jade looks fine. It is only 11.5 miles from one to the other. See here- http://tinyurl.com/obfxzf3 We can setup a time to gather at either venue or at Dan's shop. I am looking forward to see what is planned. My wife and I are staying over until Monday morning so we can go through Rocky Mtn NP on Monday morning. |
