This is somewhat OT, but I thought I'd pass it along. Wolfpen Gap Country Store (formerly known as "Dale's") is in a bit of a bind right now and is trying to raise money so they can re-fill their gas tanks and keep the business going. It's the only gas station for about a 20 mile radius and is right across the street from TWO of Suches. They also serve pretty good meals on the weekends. If you'd like to help them out, consider chipping in a few bucks at their "Go Fund Me" page: http://www.gofundme.com/wpgcs |

Heh... Vern, that was a big 'possum. I center-punched it... Jeremy- I'm SO glad you had that HID setup for the after-dark, pitch-black, first-time run I'd evaaar had down GA60... geez, but it took forever, and I KNEW that it was a great road... in daylight. Vern- keep me posted on your plans, I may/can/will contribute as needed. That other campground a little further north on 60 might be a good spot, between C3 Central and Suches... the folks that ran the place last time I was there were super cool, put on a mean feed-bag, and had a super nice, giant German Shepherd to welcome you too... |

On that trip we learned a valuable lesson, Squids sucks at navigation. |

I think I will try to stay at TWOs. I also think I will camp if the weather is cooperative. Has anyone started to put any day rides together? |

Yeah- now that I know all I have to do is stay on TN68/GA60, duuuhhh. Hard to believe we did that initial run without a GPS. Or a PPS (Possum Position Sensor)... |

If I recall I was running my BAW and some among us were freezing! That run up the Cherohala at dark was awesome! I never want to do that again. |

Some of us had heated vests. If I remember correctly, Vern, you had brake pulsing so bad you could barely hang onto the bars from the shaking. |

"That run up the Cherohala at dark was awesome! I never want to do that again." No, we GOT to Tellico Plains as dawn was approaching, IRC. I purposely rode as fast as I could to get us over and down the Cherohala stretch, safely... THEN we had to finish traveling down TN68 to the Georgia line, where I conveniently got us lost, after dark and some Arby's, thank Gawd. At least some bastid had enough forward illumination, combined with a heap of self-grats at keeping warm to maintain the line, FGIN fast to Suches. If I've never said so, Jeremy, thanks for my life so far.

The sad part was that after I dropped you guys off at TWO, I headed to C3 Central. Didn't realize we had passed it on the way down. I took off on Cooper Creek Road from TWO. Little did I realize that the TWO end ends in a gravel road. Figured that wasn't it, so I turned around and took the next Street. So after running GA60 for several hours in the dark, I decided it would be fun to run assignificant portion of Wolf Pen Gap in the dark as well. So I got a vector to C3 only to end the day with the gravel driveway from hell and to be met as soon as I took my helmet off by someone I had never met offering me unknown liquid from a glass jar. I decided right then I had found my people. |

I remember my first experience with finding C3 Central as well, but at least it was in daylight. I got to Suches about 3 PM on a Friday afternoon (after a ~6 hour ride from SC) and headed up 60 with paper directions taped to the airbox. I missed the first turn for Cooper Creek Road and found the 2nd one ~5 miles away down GA-60. I ventured up that a mile or so until I hit gravel thinking "this doesn't look right" and finally turned right into what looked like a new residential area. Of course, I quickly ran out of road there. I promptly dumped the Uly trying to turn around in a grassy area at the end of the road, but I managed to pick the bike up without unloading. I stopped at the country store at the end of this end of Cooper Creek Road and 60 and the guy told me to head a few miles back towards TWO and look for the other end. I found the correct road this time, soon found the sign for C3 and started up that steep gravel driveway. BTW- I have a 30" inseam which is about the bare minimum for keeping an XB12X upright on level pavement, so that steep, rough, gravel driveway looked pretty intimidating. I had a lot of weight in the bags and I could feel the front wheel getting air with every bounce coming up that hill. I stood on the pegs and leaned forward and managed to maintain momentum. If I'd had to stop and put a foot down, I suspect I'd have dumped it again. Finally, I crested the hill, and there it was. Whew! C3 Central is s still one of the coolest places I've ever stayed in the mountains. (Message edited by Hughlysses on January 04, 2015) (Message edited by Hughlysses on January 04, 2015) |

Good thing those peeps (Kristi) had the foresight to put up marker signs... Gonna have to have another one made. While in Boone last summer someone decided they liked our sign and took it I decided right then I had found my people. That seems to happen alot at C3 Central! |

Yeah, I forgot about that brake being that bad. But what the heck.....HD tested it more than once and claimed it to be good to go! Not being the kind of guy who over uses and depends on a rear brake too much, I just got used to not using the brakes at all. I could bring it to a stop only using the brakes the last fifty feet. I never did find C3 camp. I came across the end of the drive and thought this can't be it. I found out later that it was. |

I better clarify Mikes comment above. It was a VERY rough week at work. Up until Tuesday I wasn't sure if I was going to remain gainfully employed. Back in October they announced a MAJOR reorg for North American operations. We new we were going to lose around 800 positions. We found out this week, my group of 12 lost 3 good folks. Once again I was spared. So,,, as long as the planets keep lining up, I'm in! Not sure of travel plans just yet, Mike and I have to confirm... Wahoo! Brad |

Bump- Who was it a ways back in time that was interested in splitting the cost of a cabin/room at TWoS? Time's getting away from us, it'd prollly be prudent to go ahead and nail down a reservation... |

Bump II- I just looked at the Wolf Pen Gap store's site, they're only up to $810ish... peeps, jump on and help them if ya can! I wonder- since it's tax time, might there be a few people who'd donate their refund? I'll not be able to, but... it's an idea! |
