I ran over a nail on my way home from my 1000 mile service and need a new rear tire which the local Harley dealer can't find a part number for. I read that Dunlop's D207 "U" tires were custom-made for XB Buells. Does anybody know what's different about them, and if I can simply fit a regular 207 Sportmax on the rear without also changing the front tire? |

3.5 pounds? That's pretty significant; thank you for the information. You know, I had started out to buy an R1100S but the XB12R won me over with the thoroughness of its design, and this is just one more instance in which I am impressed. Too bad about the HD dealer... |

I believe the D207U's have been discontinued by Dunlop. The D208 has been the recommended replacement for 18 months or so (Check Dunlops web site). I would not worry about mismatching tires. I had the 207 paired with a 208 for 3500 miles. I currently have a D208 front paired with a Pirelli Diablo rear, and have not had any handling issues. I also have mismatched tires on my Harley for the past 21,000 miles with no issues. (I've also patched a nail hole in my D207U at 1,000 miles that lasted till there was no tread left at 5,000 miles. YMMV of course) |

The 208 weighs about the same as the 207U. |

I have had 3 sets of Dunlops without a problem. I think it just comes down to personal preference. Last season I started a trackday weekend with brand new 208s, and was more than comfortable with the perfomance I got out of the tires. L8R,JM |

I run Metzler M1's. After about 4 track days I and 5k road miles I noticed that my rear needs to be replaced. I will probably get another set of the same tire, or I may switch over to Diablo's, its basicaly the same tire from what I have read. Just a matter of price. I paid 224 dollars for a set of Metzlers, that price included shipping.

The Glendale chapter of Brag had a guy from Perelli come in January and give us a lecture about tires. Had some really interesting things to say about tires. I was already running the Diablo's, most of the people in the lecture, have switched. I too heard good things about the Metzlers. But the place I go to get tires always has Diablos in stock and cheaper than the Metzlers. I get both front and rear installed for $300. Just the rear for about $200 I have my free front coming from Pirelli, should be here soon hopefully. I will need it soon! |

I have had punctures, replaced the rear at 2K miles with a Dunlop 208J. Another puncture at 3K and plugged the thing. No noted handling differences other than my mind. The stock Dunlop had cupped at about 6500 miles. Got in on the Pirelli Corsa buy the rear and get the front free. Also got in on the Diablo's also. Waiting for the Corsa's to wear out. 3K miles and no complaints. Plugged another puncture at 8900 miles on the Corsa. Butt dyno tells me that the OEM Dunlops stuck better, but did not wear as well. I changed my suspension settings at the same time. Also read where Pirelli is now back ordering the fronts. The fronts may not be free any longer (while supplies last). edited by kaese on April 02, 2004 |

Just got my free front from Pirelli today. I was wondering, I know what everyone gets out of the rear, so what kind of mileage is everyone getting off the front? |

Two rears for every front. The torque just eats tires. |
