Since the 96 S2T doesn't have the green carbon-fibre hugger, what did it come with for an air-filter cover? And is the California model different? | ||

Same filter housing as a '95, just not green. | ||

It was a green carbon fiber cover painted textured black, as was the rear hugger. The finish was terrible on the carbon so they painted them. | ||

Coating was a Vy-Lon. I have some of them here . . . totally dig the green. It's nostalgia, not aesthetics. | ||

My '96 S2T has a green air filter cover - it's a late build date too. The carbon was wearing a little thin at the bottom and I was getting a few drips of oil through it from the K&N. I repaired it rather than use the new black one that came with the NRHS back plate I have on the shelf. | ||

I like the green as well. Looks really good when polished up nice. I have both the green ham can cover and rear tire fender on my S2. | ||

My "T" also has green AC with black hugger All other S2's have greenies all around. I don't remember ever seeing a sprayed black AC cover on S2 or S1's | ||

I don't recall ever seeing a vylon air cleaner either...but I will admit, my original post was wrong. Pondering it further, I've only ever seen green CF air cleaners on S2s. I've seen vylon huggers, and green huggers...but never vylon air cleaners. (Message edited by ratbuell on January 08, 2015) | ||

Right. My 95 has green and green. My new S2T has black hugger and what seems to be a Sportster hamcam, although not the normal chrome one. So I need a greenie. | ||

As it so happens, about a week and a half ago, I stumbled upon 1996 S2T VIN #1 (along with 2008 1125R VIN #1, a pair of 2010 Buells - 1125CR and XB12X - a pair of RR1200's, an RR1000, and a smattering of other interesting Buells) and 1996 S2T VIN #1 has a CF (so called greenie) air cleaner cover, and a black painted rear inner fender. Just the way I remember them being built, 1313 | ||

Brankin: I concur. The exposed weave rear inner fender was on the 1995. The CF gave way (and you have me wanting to pull some production files to confirm) to fiberglass for 1996. It was 1996 that we did the very nice CF rear inner fender for the S1 which in 1997 was still CF but painted with black Vy-Lon. *** I think *** Again ., . .curiosity may send me digging for files. | ||

For S2T VIN #1... A little hint:  The museum at Uke's in Kenosha, WI. It had been a few years since I had been there. I was DELIGHTED to see more Buell's there than previous visits.  That 1125R behind the S2T is VIN #1 (2008):   The proclamation is made:  Digging for the truth:  Confirmation!  Some of the other sights:   Rear fenders (to the best of my recollection): '95 S2 - exposed CF '96 S2 - I believe it was fiberglass (Hell, the tool didn't care what went into it - CF or fiberglass, especially with the epoxy resin used in 1996 fiberglass) '96 S1 - exposed CF '97 S1 - CF, but painted '98 S1 - exposed CF Anytime anyone is in the Kenosha area, Uke's museum is the 2nd floor of the H-D dealer. Admission is FREE! As long as they don't have it roped off you are free to go up and drool. If it is roped off, usually all you need to do is politely ask and odds are they'll let you go up and drool. What I haven't figured out is why Uke's doesn't sell EBR - unless Hal's demanded/requested to be the exclusive SE Wisconsin EBR dealer (as they advertise), 1313 | ||

Going through some old literature (knowing that actual production models could easily vary from the brochure bikes)... 1995 Brochure "Buell American Motorcycles" S2 - Exposed CF rear fender, exposed CF AC cover 1996 Brochure "Pray for Pavement" S2/S2T - Flat black rear fender, exposed CF AC cover S1 - Flat black rear fender, 1997 Brochure "Motor-Cycle Mecca' S3/M2 - flat black rear fender S1 - Exposed CF rear fender 1998 Brochure "Real World Riding" S3/M2 - flat black rear fender S1/S1W - exposed CF rear fender Sales Brochures may not always show what was actualIy shipped, but I remember the S2 Configuration the same as the brochures indicate. I did not remember the 1996 S1 fenders being black, but the parts catalog show a part number change in 1997 that carried through 1998 - which matches the model year changes shown in the brochure photos. The 1996 brochure also shows the S1 sidestand mounted to the primary cover. Although I think the ones we rode at the dealer new model show had the stand on the primary, I don't think any were shipped that way. | ||

A VERY accurate statement and the source of some funny stories. I'm sitting in my office one day and the phone rinds . . . a customer tells me "Hey, my M2 was delivered without the remote rebound reservoir" I go into a knowing soliloquy about the M2 not having a reservoir and he stops me and tells me "but wait? . . . I'm looking at it right here on the brochure" OOOOOPS Sure enough . . the shocks hadn't arrived yet and when the M2 photo bikes were sent to Juneau they got S1 shocks slapped on them. | ||
