back in August my throttle shaft snapped in half ...at the very end of a 1450 mile ride...as i was coasting into my driveway as it were. I had to rotate the motor and switch out the shaft and i used OEM gaskets when i put the intake back on...well... While i have done what i had to to keep on riding to the end of season... The bike has never run right since. I bought a few sets of OEM seals...but after researching the problems...and having already done this once to find they are leaking... I really don't have much faith in the OEM parts...a lot of posts on here about idle problems and stuttering ...and I personally believe there are a lot of Buells...and even more Harleys out there that have intake leaks and run poorly because of it. So I read about these seals that Twin Motorcycles had made ...and to me....they make sense in from an engineering standpoint ...although at 20 times the cost of the OEM seals they are a little pricey. Anyways...long story short...I bought a set and I'm planning on installing them this afternoon and I was wondering If anyone here has used these and if anyone had any recommendations for what type lube to use when installing them? I really hope these work better than the OEM parts...I love this bike....but cant stand riding around with an intake leak Any tips on installing would be great...Thanks ...Ray | ||

I have not done this job, but there was talk of some magic (my word) lubricant/sealant that should be applied to the spigots & seals before installation. I'll root around and see if I can find the thread for you. The 'lubricant'... Sil-Glyde. When I did mine that is what Al @American Sport Bike recommended. | ||

I use Dow Corning 112, it's a silicone o-ring lubricant/sealer. Sil-Glyde sounds like a similar product. It takes the high heat, doesn't dry and lubricates the o-ring on the intake since as the cylinders grow the intake needs to move in and out. I'm surprised you have to rotate the engine, I've replaced my intake seals several times without rotation. | ||

Using these Oberon seals and flanges it was really hard getting the head surface o ring to stay in its groove...I really dont think i could have done it without rotating the motor | ||

I made these a couple of years ago but my intake hasn't started leaking yet so I never tried them on the Buell. I did try them on the Harley and they didn't work but I finally figured out my air cleaner, that was made by Arlen Ness was machined .100" offset putting my intake in a bind and causing my leaks. I put a K&N filter assembly on and no more problems so now I need to go back and try these again.  | ||

the ones i used look exactly like that....148 miles on the bike today...january 4 and it was 57f who would have thought? I also made an exhaust can that i installed yesterday as well...between the seals and this can...this bike has never run or sounded so sweet. The seals were expensive...but no leaks is worth every penny (Message edited by Rayycc1 on January 04, 2015) | ||

They bought 2 of my original throttle shafts and then copied them but they sell them for twice as much. I don't know if they copied my intakes or not since I don't remember if I put pictures of them on the web or not. It is good to know that they work!  |
