Hmm having had a 955i,ZX12,gix1000,Guzzi Sport 1100,900 Superlight,900sssp,916,ST4,998 mono yeller(Daves still have it?).I loved the howl of the 955i,but the 998 had a sweet sound too.Maybe a new 1000cc Agusta!  | ||

Maybe a speed triple, maybe a Vstrom, maybe one of those BMW twin Adventure tourers (GS1100?) (though I doubt I could afford it). Maybe a hopped up SV-650. The 'prillas are nice, but the ones I have seen seem to sacrifice a little too much streetability in the interest of on track performance. | ||

If we are strictly talking street sport...triumph daytona 955....if we are talking sport and not putting a preference on what Type of sport.... I'd have what I also already have Triumph Tiger. and trust me it is a street sport also in the twistys. hhhmmmmmm a pattern here for me....like those english bikes....I'd have a norton manx, norton commando(old one), vincent, triumph bonneville(old one) and a bsa, that new triumph thruxton is pretty cool too. ok why don't any new bikes inspire me the way the buells do..... edited by buckinfubba on March 26, 2004 | ||

nope, my eyes are peeled at all times for stuff. Its more than obvious that I like all kinds of motorcycles. Its just that everything seems so sterile these days. kinda no soul, computergenerated designs, The triumphs for some reason do it for me, you know they got that retro thingy going and that 3 cyl growl. either that or like buell triumph is still holding step child status in the sportbike community. why I don't know but they are. trust me I could work at a dealership selling yama's kawa's suzka's and honda's and I'd find not much inspiration. Ducati's are even starting to lose that special thing to me. Now KTM I think given a few more years, and some curvy lines to their designs and then watch out. we know the engine is good, dealer support is gonna be spotty tho I think. | ||

Okay...these other sportbike threads always get the juices flowin'! My picks were based on prices I could afford. If it was unlimited cash, then the Italian's got me! I actually considered a Monster before my Lightning but the XB won. With added funds, Monster S4R, 996, or Aprilia Mille R. Too many awesome bikes to choose from! | ||

THe BMW K series are the most interesting bikes to me besides the Buells. A BMW with a German made inline 4 is really interesting. A BMW is the #3 bike on my want list. I just can't figure out which one. I've got #1, my S3T. #2 is a XB12R. #3 the BMW. JT | ||

some of the new guzzis are really sweet lookin . . . . ditton on the old-timey ducks . . . . neither are real sport bikes, I know . . . . if we limit postings to sport bikes, it's real hard to go wrong with anything Honda makes . . . .. . | ||

The air cooled Duc Monsters aren't too expensive. I'd probably go with a Duc Monster 1000 or a Beemer R1200GS. | ||

We don't like the typical Jap stuff. My other bike is a Ducati 748s. I've considered Triumph's also. The Jap bikes boast incredible performance and a great deal of refinement but lack character. Both my Buell and Ducati have loads of personality and character. Just an opinion.  Never Give Up! | ||

Dyna- Besides Triumphs, a lot of Duc's too. The Japanese bikes are a lot like Japanese cars. Efficient, reliable, great performance, but lacking character. I ride a Buell because of this. There are a lot of other rides I could have bought for the money I spent on my XB. There is a lot to be said for character. | ||

I love the looks of the 748 Duc & have seen a few that can be picked up with real low miles for a great price. How are they for a typical 200-300 mile day? Real uncomfortable for an old fart or can they be modded relatively easily for comfort? | ||

Dyna,I guess it' up to the person riding it.I rode my ol 916 on many 3-400 mile putts. Many times with a backpack full of camping gear(tent,sleeping bag,and Kermit campchair)+ tankbag full of clothes.In rain from Iowa to Ark. to play for 3 days.If it wasn't for my neck problems from work I would still have my yeller 998 mono,that Dave sold to Cal.  Damn I miss that bike!On a different note,the 955i Daytona(silver) that I had was as much fun,and that 3cyl howl was intoxicating!I don't think one could go wrong with a 955i.for a 2nd bike.Tigers,bitchin too. 2¢ | ||

I like V-twins alot. The Suzuki SV1000 is a very nice bike for less than $7k. Great motor, kinda rough around the edges. Ugly welds, chak suspension, great motor and great price. | ||

I dont care for the SV, the older SV650 with the rounded tube frame style was cool, but this newer style looks like pressed steel & is ugly. Plus the SV1000 really stretches you out. I found it to be a powerful but very uncomfortable bike. | ||

I got disagree with you Bubba. The Japanese are really on the ball. You can't blame them for seeming sterile or characterless. Neither is true really, more they are just a consequence of mass production. I tell you man, you're a big guy right, so I tell you to go ride the wheels off the Z1000 Kwak and I promise you you won't find it sterile. As for other Japanese bikes, and we're talking sportsbikes here, surely you must think the latest generation of these race rep's are the best we've ever seen from Japan. Ducati's, MV's and exotica aside, the new Fireblade and ZX10 look really good in sportsbike terms. Mind you, Yamahe have dropped the ball with the latest R1. Take a look at the design competition at Ducati's web site, check out Heikki Naulapaa's Project M2 or the Ducati 1000UL creation. It's entirely possible that Ducati might produce the winning bike.
