This problem is 100 percent my fault. First I left fuel in the tank for almost 10 months without starting it and second I didn't have it completely protected from the elements.
I had decided to put some miles on it after some turkey and dressing so I pulled it out from under the shed and put a trickle charger on it. No dice, the battery is toast. new battery from the local battery shop and it turns over like a champ.
It just won't start. I start poking around and notice a plug wire has some marks and get worried. I pull the breather box off and notice that both plug wires and the throttle position sensor have been significantly chewed through by something.
I locate two plug boots at the local HD shop but nothing else. I rebuild the connector and plug and reinstall it.
I am still in the same place though. It turns over but will not start. Could I get some direction on how to start troubleshooting the bike to get it running again? thanks |

I would drain and refresh the fuel, Do a Tps reset |

What Gabby says. Also, since you are there, check and confirm spark at the plugs.
After putting in new fuel, I would pull the fuel line at the fuel rail and turn on the ign so the fuel pump runs, and get known fresh fuel to the injectors.

Mickey made a meal of mine last year also... I noticed it because the tail light was out. Sure enough, there was a mouse nest back there with chewed through wiring and three baby mice, who had a VERY exciting commute back and forth to my work that morning. Momma was nowhere to be seen.
You just have to track down all the damage and repair it, they are thorough little bastards, I'll give them that.
Makes me appreciate cats. |

Thanks for the advice, I have drained and filled the tank with fresh fuel.
While I was down there I noticed that the fuel pump was not priming like normal. It wasn't coming on at all. I believe I have fixed all the damaged wires.
How can I jumper the pump to see if it may have gone out. I see in other posts that the grey wire should be the 12 volt hot but I do not know which other of the three wires I need to ground to check the pump |

Per my '08 manual:
O/GY (grey w/orange tracer) is the hot wire. Pin 3 of the connector.
Bk (black) wire is ground. Pin 1.
The '08 manual diagram Is Most Likely the same as your bike concerning the fuel pump.
Don't forget to check the wiring harness side of the plug to confirm 12v there, and that the harness side of the ground is grounded.

check the fuel pump fuse and solenoids.Then remove them one at a time and put back in.This will remove any oxidation.Try moving the solenoids around is anothe method. |

I just checked the harness and found that there is no power coming to it.
I am going to try and find a wiring diagram that will show me where to chase down the break in the system |

I moved all the fuses and solenoids that I could access and then rechecked the pins going to the fuel pump on the harness side. The grey wire and one other wire had 13.xx volts and the other two did not have any voltage. with the key in the on position. Does that sound correct?
Since there is power getting to the pump is my next move replacing the pump?

I also disconnected the fuel line at the pump and turned the ignition on. I expected fuel to come out but nothing happened |

remove the front fly screen and make sure a mouse didn;t get in there to. |

Not much else you can do. At least there are a limited number of places you have to search, it's not like a spring shot across a garage or something.

When you turn the key on then kill switch to on, does the red check engine light come on? If not then your ECM is not working, and the ECM is what controls the fuel pump. |
