I was working on the bike tonight, after I had noticed that almost every bolt on my exhaust system had rattled out, when I finished I attempted to start the motorcycle to see if it had taken the rattle out. I turned the key, the lights come on, I pressed the start button and the starter made a strange noise, like a loud click about 5 or 6 times and as soon as that happened...all of my instruments and lights went out. As of now, there is nothing working. I checked the fuses and none were blown. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx Ben |

I haven't checked the battery as of now but it was fully charged before I did this.

Check the connections on the battery. A loose terminal can cause the bike to act like the battery is dieing. |

Pull the plugs and see if it will crank. |

Classic Dyna... Vans are great. I'd say check the charge on the battery as well. If you continue to have problems with loose nuts on the header, try double nutting them, and see how that goes. Alex |

I just had the same thing happen. All I did was tighten the battery connections and it voila! Try that... |

BenK... The battery or battery connections are the current issue. Did you have to putz with the voltage regulator mount when you were messing with the exhaust? Make sure it has a good ground where it is bolted down. Did you upgrade the front exhaust mount to the new "Y" style adapter? Do it, it is a $100 kit, but will save you the grief of busted header studs. Believe me, that is worth $100 to avoid. I was one of the ones vocally advocating the double nutting on the header studs. It does make them easier to inspect to see if the nut dropped off, but won't fix the root problem. The Y front mount and careful installation of the whole system (no residual tensions) is the real fix.

ben your battery can show a good charge and still be bad. if the charge is good and it still does this , get it load tested. how old is your battery , could just be the heat and vibration took a cell out. |

Thanks a lot for the help guys. It turned out to be a loose battery connection that had vibrated loose. Reepicheep-I am not sure if it was upgraded and I have no clue what you are talking about with the "y" style adapter. |

Ben, Look at this post: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=169273#POST 169273 You should be able to just look at your mount and tell if it's new "Y" one or the old one. |

Does that go on the front of the pipe or is that the rear? There isn't anything like either diagram on my bike. If this makes any difference it is a 96 S1 and I have the supertrapp? |

Try printing off the "service bulletin" and take to your dealer. I did that, and they gave me the upgrade for free. I had to give them the old part, so they could get the reimbursement from Buell, I'm guessing. Worth a try, eh? Lloyd |
