November I'll hang up the spurs. One more race weekend will be the last. What a long, strange trip it's been. Pic from last weekend's racing:

Nice trophies! You've still the physique of a racing snake. I've a couple of mates around 50 who still race, and win, often beating racers half their age. Enjoy your retirement Steve Rocket in England |

I know you can't stay away from Willow. Who are you pitting for next year? |

Got some things to build. Things to try, experiments to run. Racing is a lot like living with a close friend with a debilitating illness. You're always doing SOMTHING to make it better and you just can't leave to do anything else. |

Did it hurt the cam? Or is the pushrod designed to be a mechanical fuse? |

I've bent pushrods before and haven't damaged cams. I'd imagine with solids it would be worse. |

I finished all three of my races on the XB. Looks like I got (unofficial) 2nd overall in Formula Twins heavyweight, 2nd overall in Formula 60 and 3rd overall in Battle Of The Twins Middleweight. Bittersweet ending to my "career" of Club racing. My first full season without being sidelined because of injuries or a broken (or crashed) machine. The times the motor was busted, I was able to borrow a bike (OK, Suzuki GSXR750 and another time, SV650) Henry Duga, John Cagle, Earl Kellerman, Pancho Spain, Jesus Amezcua - you ALL should have been here. Sunny and I toasted the memory of Henry Duga and John Cagle - and races well run... and crushed the glasses so the glasses used and the memory would not be dishonored by further use. Pancho and I played in junior high school orchestra together back in 1966 and 67 - we had some history. He was killed in front of me in our Formula 50 race at Willow Springs. http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/rip-wsmc-racer -pancho-spain/ (Message edited by slaughter on November 17, 2014) |

Good to leave this sport with shiny side up and rubber side down - and smiling.
