Did a forum search and for some reason it keeps giving me nothing. I remember this problem was talked about for awhile some months ago and there is the option for the ebay piece to fix it The plastic piece is just not holding anymore and is spinning when I turn the knob. Any ideas out there? Thanks |

You can JBweld it. Personally, I bought a new one. it wasn't that bad in terms of cost. My cap's issue: The locking thing got loose and the vibes would just rotate it randomly. There are no tumblers in there by the way. I had tried putting heavy grease on it but the gas finally got it to melt out. I guess the engine ended up eating it LOL. I also finally understood why the bike ran crappy for a tank of gas after washing/being in the rain. Water can get right in! |

The locking thing got loose and the vibes would just rotate it randomly. There are no tumblers in there by the way. Slight clarification. The gas caps with the 'soda machine' style lock (i.e. round H-D key) do not have any tumbler. However, the earlier gas caps (S2 only, perhaps?) with a blade type key DEFINITELY had tumblers. There were 2 manufacturers for tuber gas caps and I have not found a single part that does not retrofit from one manufacturer to the other. To cap it off... 1313 |

Just get a cap for a Blast - fits fine, no key lock to worry about. |

If the bolt rotates randomly when the cap is fully on, your nut is loosening. Tension should hold the lever in place when it is in the down position. If you can't get the nut to stay put no matter what you do to it (over-cut threads on the flat-side bolt, perhaps?), there's always "Oklahoma Loc-tite"... coat the bolt threads in battery acid, apply the nut, let foam, then dunk into baking soda solution to arrest foaming. I prefer to drill both nut and bolt and safety-wire them myself. |

Yes, it works great - but if the nut keeps falling off the bottom of the locking thingy his issue is the flat-sided bolt or the nut that can't stay on it. If your plastic is chewed up, by all means get the aluminum replacement... but that's only half your problem. If you don't like safety wire drill the bolt and nut and get an expanding clevis pin. That's all mine requires, but the quality control is not the best on that particular part. If too much was cut off to make the flats, or if the threads were cut too deep, even a nylock can come loose under vibration. Gmann told me to expect a tight fit on the adapter I bought from him and it was loose. If it was any looser, the nut would not stay on; hence my advice to drill and wire it if the issue is troublesome. Gasoline fumes are a lubricant and vibration is a bitch. Safety wire is your friend if you have to work on aircraft or big twins. |

Got the piece today. Excellent and it works as advertised. Probably gonna buy another for the S2.... I am pretty sure the plastic on that one is starting to go as well Highly recommend! |

Update. Ok today I tried the cap fix on my S2. It works fine, you just need to pay attention to what you're doing. I did a TINY bit of filing ( less than a minute) with a needle file, as noted in his ebay add. Then just adjusting the nut till it's in the right place. Works fine, nice piece, I like it. |

I'll have another look. I did have to open the slot in the middle slightly but still couldn't get it to work. I'm not worried as it is sold as an X1 cap fix and I'm sure I will have another X1 at some point. I contacted Newton Equipment about a replacement plastic part yesterday. |

Having ordered a new plastic replacement from Newton Equipment I thought I'd have another look. The aluminium part works fine once you've opened up the central slot a little. Not sure what I was doing wrong the other day. Interestingly the new part from Newton Equipment appears to have been made slightly smaller than the original. It has definitely come from a different mould so should be less prone to this problem. |
