I broke the vacuum tube to this what is it what does it do ?

That's the VOES switch - vacuum operated electrical switch. I guess that would make it just the VOES...not the vacuum operated electrical switch switch. lol. It controls when (as in vacuum level) the ignition goes into its advance curve. |

Did it use to have a rubber hose coming out of it? VOES. Gives you a city-traffic acceleration curve when you're not working the engine hard. Gives you faster full advance when you are. If it belongs on your bike, check the intake manifold for an air leak. |

Actually it gives the retard curve under hard throttle/low vacuum conditions, no? |
