That rack is the best thing since sliced bread!! I have carried my k1200 on that down to Kentucky & back. Never an issue no tolls & 85+ mph with out even thinking about it. So the XB. That's a highly sought after super rare shifter setup designed at area51!! It was a prototype design that NASA, the ATF, & the Secret service squashed ((( It stole stealth technology (( Shhhhh.......don't tell anyone It's a 6" vice grip wrapped in a blue bandanna. )))) SO.... Picked it up last night on my way to pick up a no mar tire changer abt 3 hrs away. So I figured I would do a Craigslist search in the area for the hell of it. PO said "I was riding her & it just shut off" he was told it was the timing chain. But if that's the case the valves would've been rattling and rattling when we crank the motor over so I am not thinking it's that Starter turns crank but no startle (( Could be a .50 fuse idk. I will get to it later )) I really didn't care when I was on my way I bought it for the wheels/forks & figured I was gonna part it out anyway since I fugured he blew it up. I figured I would check all the simple shit first side stand switch various connections and such then do a compression check. Any ideas any advice I'm going to give her a bath put her on the rack and maybe see what I can do most likely I will put it on the XP side and see with the gentleman there have to say Ride safe Chris |

LOL! I can absolutely and positively guarantee it isn't the timing chain, unless an overhead cam bike in front of him ejected a timing chain and he sucked it into his intake.

I've seen the vice grip thing done before, but wrapping it with a bandana is taking it to the next level! That's awesome! Clean it up and get a better read on the symptoms. Could be bank angle sensor, could be cam position sensor, could be a chafed fuel pump wire, could be cracked wire in the harness somewhere. Nice score! |

I got to that bit about the timing chain and though 'Wow - I didn't know the XBs had timing chains at all..." Was that a HD dealer who said that? It would have made sense since with a Big Twin Twin Cam. In my experience, If a bike is running fine and then suddenly stops doing that- it is ALWAYS electrical in nature. Service manual and following the correct troubleshooting tree will yield the answer - I agree, it's probably something dumb like the kickstand switch. |

If he believes he had a timing chain he shouldn't be riding a Buell. No clunk, no grinding noise, no bang - good news! See if the ECM lost a wire from a plug. |
