How was it? Did you get wet? Seemed like it might have been raining in Arizona on Sunday. I had a very hectic visit to the Duke City. I'm going to be looking for some dirt this weekend to see if I can get some experience with this bike off-road without killing myself. I still haven't gotten any MX boots or other pads/gear. |

It was a good ride, the weather was great on saturday, and not too bad on Sunday.

Is your bike also a ZX-10? They look similar but different. Different years? Who is the guy you went with? You looked a bit bundled up. Was it chilly? |

The white bike is a '14 ZX10R, and the blue one is a '14 ZX1000. The R belongs to Chris, he's been to the last 2 Springfast rides. The R has great suspension, handles good, but has that peaky L4 powerband. The ZX has poor suspension, great ergos, hard bags, and is tuned for more midrange. It's a fun bike, but I will never be able to keep up with a Buell on it. (I can stay in front of Chris and his R though) I bundle up because I'm an old fart, and like to stay comfortable Probably riding up to Colorado this weekend, maybe some fall foliage still to be seen up there? |

Probably riding up to Colorado this weekend, maybe some fall foliage still to be seen up there? Yeah, I bet you still have a good shot. It wasn't looking too bad along the bosque in ABQ yet. Many trees were still green and just turning yellow. The weather here has been beautiful. The only bummer is that the sun is setting early. I get out of work around 5pm and have a long shadow all the way to my apartment. And then it's dark before 7pm. |

CJ, That's enough time for a quick ride out Spanish trail to Vail and back. |

Did a couple rides this weekend. Took the KTM up Mt. Lemmon Saturday. It's interesting. Even though it's basically a dirt bike, with dual sport tires on it, it handles quite well on the road and in the curves. It has quick steering and is light. In fact, it's awkward to get off of it and then to go ride the Ulysses, which feels heavy and lumbering in comparison. I took the pavement up from Tucson and rode down the back side, in the dirt, to Oracle. It's about 30 miles or so of dirt. I saw some hunters on ATVs. This guy was at the top of this crazy steep hill. He was coming down on his quad. I figured I needed more practice before I'd attempt going up there. It was a pretty good day. Total of about 125 miles, including 30 or so on dirt. Sunday, I met up with the guy who is the previous owner of my KTM. He has a thing for the bike being black. So, he took the new white plastics off the 2014 when he bought it and put them on the 2013 that he traded in, and which I now have. We rode out to the east of Tucson, where Tanque Verde turns into Redington Road. At about mile marker 3, it turns into dirt. We rode to MM 22 or so, through all kinds of stuff: gravel, sand, washboards, big rocks, etc. Eventually we got to this small peak with a great overlook. I thought for sure we'd get wet, but we didn't. This is the road to the little peak: This is Dave coming down that road back to the main road: In all, it was a very fun two days of riding. I'm kind of sore now since I have not done really any dirt riding in forever. Good times! |

Hey Guys: I'm looking for a nice, low mile '08/'09 Lightning Long. Preferably Cherry Bomb or Valencia Orange. If you run into one, give me a shout. I'm on Phoenix. Thanks! Mike |

Went to the motorcycle show up in Scottsdale this past weekend. Not as great as I'd hoped, but still a good couple of hours. Photos and details here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=37&post=2452383#POST2452383 |

Weather? The thermostat last week was turned to the liquid CO2 setting. I haven't been riding, but I bet Bart would if he were living up here! I had to buy several hundred pounds of rock to use as ballast in my pickup. It definitely helps with the traction. Not only that but at the end of the season I give it to my sister for her yard. Without that extra weight my rear wheels can spin when running at a fast idle. |

Yea, I've been getting out and about. I'm not going to let 20 to 30 degree temps stop me from riding... Life is good, when you're rolling on two wheels! |

Well, the other day it snowed here. Everyone seemed shocked. It's been fairly chilly in the morning. But today and tomorrow it is going to be 75-77F each day. Only low 40s overnight. Not too terrible. So, I don't think I told you guys, but... I bought the new KTM in early October. Since I was going to title it in NM, I got a 90-day AZ non-resident temp tag. Well, the first real chance I got to come home and title it was over Christmas. I went to DMV on Monday morning, 12/29. I had already called the finance company and checked the DMV website, so I felt sure I had all the paperwork I needed. Apparently, I was wrong. Arizona is an electronic title state. There are no paper titles anymore. New Mexico is not electronic. It requires a paper title. Well, I don't have the title. I financed the bike. The lien holder has the title. So, trying to transfer from AZ to NM without the actual paper title was beyond the capabilities of the DMV people in Rio Rancho. Which, BTW, is not even a real DMV. Turns out NM DMV subs out their stuff to municipal sites. The Rio Rancho one is run by City of Rio Rancho. So... All services are $10 more expensive so that RR can get their fees covered too. Since I was unsuccessful at this attempt, and since my brother is now bunking at my place in Tucson with me, and is bugging me about going riding, I decided to leave the KTM in Rio Rancho and bring the Honda Rebel to Tucson. I have no idea what kind of rider he is, but he's short. I'm not about to let him ride my Firebolt and possibly wad it up. He can ride the Rebel and we will see where we go from there. Now, I'm in the midst of a carb cleaning/rebuild on a bike with 900 miles on it. It's a 2006, it had only 500 miles on it when we bought it in 2011 or so, now it has 900 miles. It has always had carb issues since I've owned it, but now it's really bad. I'm going to take it off and clean it up, replace the jets and stuff. That should solve it. Working now with the Finance Company and DMV to get the KTM done. When I sort out the paperwork, I'll be returning to NM to get the thing plated and do some riding. As much dirt as there is here, I still REALLY want to ride the NM dirt. I feel like I have more knowledge of the areas and interest in getting around out there. Applied for a few jobs in ABQ area, too. Fingers crossed. |

Yea, it does snow in Tucson, surprise! Never enough to be an issue, just enough to be cool. I went through the same crap when I bought my truck in Flagstaf and tried getting it registered in New Mexico. I finally got pissed, and just paid the damn thing off so I could get the title. Good luck with the job search, it would be nice having you back in town, nobody rides over here. At least in AZ you guys meet once a month and talk about riding...

I talk about the need to get boots with spikes in the sole to walk on ice. Yesterday, after 2 days of really mild and sunny weather, I step off the porch and whoosh... Made it to work, barely, and saw a half dozen over turned vehicles. There was an 1/8 inch thick coat of ice on everything. Got to work and as soon as I stepped out of the truck - whoosh, flat on my back. No body saw it. CJ, good luck on the job front. Bart, I think January is the month they have motorcycle ice racing in the Woodland Park area. Maybe we could learn something from them. |
