I'm not posting this in the M2 section because I need a larger audience - hoping to find an answer...

I want to replace the custom Corbin seat that came on my wife's 2001 M2 - it sits her too far back. We tried my stock seat on her bike and it's a much better position.

I purchased a used M2 seat on eBay. Before I took it to the upholsterer, I test fit it on her bike. It doesn't fit. It doesn't want to sit 'down' on the frame. The seat pan isn't identical to mine, but I don't see a difference that would account for it not fitting.

I tried the purchased seat on my bike as well, and same thing - doesn't fit.

I thought all M2 seats were interchangeable across year models. I need to find another one, but don't want to purchase another seat that won't fit. Any one have any information about differences in seats between year models so I can make a proper purchase.

Thanks

The 97-98 seats were narrower, and only worked on those bikes. Is it possible you bought the older version?

And I would be happy to trade my stock M2 seat for a Corbin. It's a M2 Low, so it sits about an inch lower than a standard M2.

Can you post a picture of the seat, as mentioned the M2 seats had just the 2 variations and they are completely different in appearance.

It's definitely not a narrower seat. To look at it from the top or sides, it appears identical to mine. Underside, the seat pan has some different mold marks, but I see nothing that would keep it from fitting correctly.

The salvage yard I bought it from says it came off of a 99 M2 (same year and model as mine). They've offered to take it back - which for a salvage yard is great.

As far as a trade, yes, I'd consider it. The Corbin seat is beautiful - practically brand new. The bike itself only has 7500 miles on it, and the Corbin was installed by the second owner. He hardly rode the bike as he prefers his Road King.

I know the seat was a little over $500 new. I plan to recover what ever stock seat I get w/ a custom skin to match her bike. If you're interested in trade plus cash, give me a shout at (seven-zero-seven) three-six-zero, five-two-three-eight, and we may be able to work something out.

At some point in the production Buell switched from using a vacuum formed seat pan to an injection molded seat pan. Some thing on the X1. I have seen some fit problems with the vacuum formed pans. Good news is if the material is heated it can be formed for a better fit.

Or make sure its not catching on the retaining screw. If the screw is cocked it will keep the seat from dropping down.

Also you have mentioned , you had the seat at an upholster. Did he work on it?

I have all the seats for the M2 early and later and they all fit my 2KM2. Also the Corbins for the same. You have to have the right tail section for the seat, but they all fit the frame. Also you could have gotten a seat for an S3, the front is the same but the back end won't drop into the fender.

I'd trade you a cowled M2 seat from a '99. It's a low single seater painted Blue

Coxster would you be able to post, or PM to me, a picture of that 'cowled' seat? Just looking to see how it was done.

When I bought my M2 in 07 it came with 2 seats The original one as far as I can determine does not fit as well as the other one. I did not know about the change in seat construction but that would explain it.
