Just wondering, I rode a friends S-3 and we could not remember hoe many years it was produced. Also was it fuel injected? What years are fuel injected? The S3-T is the model I'm wondering about. |

Coolice the S3T was produced from 1997-2002.From 97-98 were carbed bikes and the 98 model year was came with the thunderstorm heads.99-2002 were fuel injected models. |

They were made from 1997 to 2002. No T models in 1999, they advertised it like fast food(have it your way). |

OK thanks. Now more questions, any years "better"? I'm considering trading my BMW for a S3-T, so thats why the questions. My XB-9 needs a closer garagemate. I like the dark green color as it is the same as the Bmeer |

If I was going to buy a carbed bike it would be a 98 because of the heads. But make sure all recalls were performed. If I was going any newer It would be 2001-02 because the recalls were taken care. |

Make sure it comes with the hard bags, those are scarcer than hens teeth. |

Ahhhh Dollorb if coolice is looking for S3T wouldn't you think it would come with the hard bags???I think the T stands for tour and there for has the bags. |

There are a few minor difference besides just the bags. Like the extra special touring handlebars. etc. I would be willing to put a small wager that there is someone out there who has destroyed his hardbags and is looking to get rid of an otherwise nice bike. |

The FI was sorted properly in 2001. Some would say 2000. The Race ECM would take care of any '99 or newer. Nice ride, a M2 frame with X1 engine. |

The FI was sorted properly in 2001 I dont know about that, mine would hiccup pretty good every once in awhile while cruising at a steady pace. Plus starting in the morning was sometimes a crapshoot. Certain days it would fire right up, other days it would foul the plug for the rear cylinder & on colder days you would have to crack the throttle open like on a carbed bike to get it to fire up. I know the XB's are much better now, I would prefer a carb over the FI on the 99-02 models. |

ah Dyna, I'm sorry to hear that about your FI bike not being properly sorted. Did any of your top secret performance mods inclued the new ECM? I was looking through your profile and read that you thought the YoDude Flytrap was "an extremely handy device." I installed one of those and didn't get along with it very well. The snaps wouldn't snap when I closed it and the plastic would bind on something (I don't remember what) when I opened it up. The price was right though. |

Ray, for the short period of time the race ecm was installed & the tps was properly set, it did run better but it would still hiccup & be a bitch to start when cold. And the Flyscreen deal is pretty cool. I used it to carry a camera around. I just had to be very careful with the installation & I left the hinge side bolts a little loose & double nutted them so they wouldnt fall off. Opened & closed just fine after that. |

Here's a tough question: Are there any numbers out there of how many S3's were made in 1999 with touring options sent from the factory? Seem's as if the S3(T) was the least amount built compared to the M2's and X1's for their years. It would be interesting to get a breakdown of numbers for each year, as compared to just group totals. |

>Are there any numbers out there of how many S3's were made in 1999 with touring options sent from the factory? Don't know how many (I'll bet you can average 98S3Ts and 00 S3Ts and get real close tho) but I have one for sale if you're looking.
