Well Electra, anyone that rides a Uly knows that that right-ball needs a little extra "maintenance adjustment" on those hot days and this is my "Uly Right-Ball Maintenance" pictorial Instruction procedure <grin>

Reep.....that is why my dad hated the idea. I would have had to move out on my own at 18 to have it. Given my driving style I doubt I would have made it to the first weekend! The paragraph above should have read "my first real car", I was on my fifth 'buy fix and sell' by the time I was 18. I was working in a salvage yard and body shop for a racecar driver/owner who was sponsored by a Chrysler Plymouth dealer. Kinda gave me an unintended "in" towards buying one. Damn..... Sugar.....what no left nut? Or is the heat more manageable on that side of your seat? |

Ha Ha, Nah, I just think it's that "brilliant" comfort kit (misnomer) funneling all that rear-header heat right up under the right side of the seat... am I wrong fellas?!?!? Funny story.... I was riding through the Palouse the other day (the rolling grain fields of Southeastern Washington State) and a flock of those small birds that hangout on cows flew right in front of me... I thought I saw at least 2 not make it, but I did a quick side-saddle check on each side, and I didn't see feathers or entrails, so I pushed on... I pulled into my buddies house about 2-hours later... Pulling into the garage and shutting the Uly down... I was like "you barbecuing" ? Nah, he said, why... turns out, one of those little fellas flew right into that right-side scoop, and I don't know if you've ever looked at the path of that thing, but it deposited that little fella right on the rear header pipe!! Needed less to say.... Pretty well-done.... I've had a few other run-ins with birds on the Uly.... decapitation via the front rotor, and a pesky pheasant that apparently needed a ride.... There was NOT room... And the pheasant didn't make out well... and I, of course, shit myself... My buddy refers to the Uly as "the Bird Killer" now...

I loved the Ulysses at first sight....but since i was born so damn good looking instead of rich...it took me a few years to save the loot to buy one...so for three years i trolled the badweb...reading and learning about my true love long before ever riding one...I searched Pittsburgh CL for three years also...always watching and waiting for my true love to come along...didn't happen. I read about every horror story to hit these pages....and i also read all of the good stories. I think the "Permagrin" stories outweighed the bad....and after getting my income tax refund this year i started looking hard...and found my love...1300 miles away. I didn't hesitate...drove a big gas guzzling f250 super duty 2450 miles round trip to Lake charles LA to buy my 06...with 9k miles...in complete stock condition w/bags and i was happy to shell out $5100for her. That was at the beginning of April of this year....My Uly now has 19k on the clock ...and has just about every performance and safety/ longevity mod that can e done. I rode the balls off this bike this summer....It took me to Lake Placid NY on a 1600 mile trip...several 600 mile WV trips...A 1200 mile trip all over OH ...and another 1600 mile trip to The outer banks and back. At least half of those miles were fully loaded two up... I wore out a brand new set of tires ....And while its never left me stranded completely...Its definitely had its moments....And still when i think about her...i get a huge grin on my face. If it went away tomorrow...I would be sad...but i would still think i have gotten every cent of my $5100 worth of fun ....There will be parts for sale. I don't see me ever selling this bike...ever. I do want to get another bike....and at this moment its a toss up...a 2012 Adventure GS that my buddy bought and parked for me until i was ready to buy it....or the new AX...As much as i love this Buell...I can tell you now that Adventure is going to sit in the garage another year....or until i can see what Eriks bringing to the game with the AX A big part of my love for this bike is the people On this forum...had it not been for the support here I'm sure i'd be singing a different tune. Thanks again guys for all the help and support!!!!! |

I will agree that this forum (despite the weird old interface) is one of the best bike specific forums on the web. I'd say that only the old Concours forum, before the weird split, was better. I can't say enough about the level of knowledge and helpful people here. One thing that I thought in reading that parts thread that would encourage me if I still owned a Uly was the belt cross-reference. I know that for a long time people were looking for a non HD/Buell belt that would work, so that's good to hear. I know I come off as a bit of a Buzz Killington here - that's not my intent. I don't know that I'll ever have a bike as fun to ride as my Uly was, but I had to make a decision as to what I wanted in a motorcycle, and what I could afford price and time wise. I don't regret my time as a Buell owner, but I don't regret letting it go either. |

"A big part of my love for this bike is the people On this forum...had it not been for the support here I'm sure i'd be singing a different tune. " Indeed. I would have set fire to mine long ago if it weren't for the people on this forum. I still might, but that is not for the lack of effort, enthusiasm and knowledge by members of this forum. Hell, BB&D would probably be my first stop for help on an issue with any bike, not just a Buell. |
