I have an '07 Ulysses that I have had for about a year now. Since day one I have felt a slight surge through the seat and handlebars from idle up to 2500 rpm. It is much worse when the engine is cold, but it is still present with a warm engine. It really makes slow speed operation (10-20mph) difficult. Once the engine speed is above 2500rpm the engine smooths out and runs like a champ. Some of the things I have read that will help/fix this issue are: - TPS reset - Square idle mod - Breather reroute to a catch can - XB9 gearing...but this only treats the symptom by driving the rpm higher at slower speeds Anything that I'm missing? Fuel map adjustment in this region? Any advice is appreciated! |

I have an 08 which I believe uses a slightly different ECU and I used to feel some "jerkiness" at low speeds as well. One day I arbitrarily decided to work some dielectric grease into the female receptacles of the ECU plugs (just enough to coat the pin contacts upon insertion) and now the engine purrs along very smoothly at all RPMs and speeds. YMMV |

Thanks for the response...I may give that a try. My bike runs fine under load at just about all RPMs...but it sure doesn't like low engine speed and light load. This appears to be a pretty common problem from what I have read. Some people say their bike runs smooth everywhere and others say the jerkiness at these conditions is just the nature of the engine. Lots of good information in these two threads... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/205913.html?1150816060 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/201172.html?1145622467 |

'07 & '08 not the same beast. What works for '08 does not apply to '07. In a nut shell, Buell XB12 not happy in that rev range... period. I started the first thread. If you want a dobek tfi for your bike, it's yours for the cost of shipping, if I can find it. Also have a trisected xb12 muffler, make offer plus shipping. Best advice: do the treadmarks square idle mod. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/323610.html?1197645760 Then learn to live with the beast. The breather reroute helped mine when warm but a cold start always has just a little surge for a mile or so, through the neighborhood. Once I'm past that it warms up and no more problem. I have the square idle as mentioned and everything did improve it. Check for an intake leak too. A very small one would affect low rpm and idle. |
