Afternoon, Recently my 1997 S3T decided it didn't want to start. I have confirmed the solenoid clicks, also i am able to bypass the solenoid and have the starter turn. Everything seems to point to the something with the solenoid. I have cleaned the contacts. Any other suggestions would be helpful, thanks. |

Sometimes the lead to the starter works loose. Check for tightness. Also, check your battery leads for tightness. |

I had this happen to me on my 95 S2 with a 98 S3T motor on a recent ride. I push started the bike, it fired right up and I have not had an issue with the starter since....although clearly the starter is trying to tell me its ready to die!!! I need to get IN FRONT of this problem and replace the starter before I find myself stranded on level ground with no one to help push.... |

Starter clutch went bad on mine, had similar sounding symptoms. I didn't even know I had one. There's a diagnosis tree in the service manual I think. Got a new one for about $35 on eBay. |

Buy a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and "PARTS BOOK" for your YEAR/MODEL BUELL ... Not only do you get a "DIAGNOSIS TREE", "BUT" you have the correct "PART NUMBERS" for every part on your BUELL ... "AND" trust me when you start dealing with some of these HARLEY-DAVIDSON parts persons, you will understand "WHY" !!! |

Hey guys. Thanks for all the tips. It turned out to be the cable from the battery to the solenoid. I went ahead and cleaned the solenoid connections, and also the cable form the solenoid to the started looked a little corroded. Starts better than ever. I do have the factory service manual and has been worth its weight in gold so far. |
