I can't remember where I 1st read about this so since I do most of my reading here I figured I would post my question here. A while back I swear I read a thread where someone suggested using this particular "HID Relay Time Delay, SPDT 10 second delay" from retro-solutions on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HID-Relay-Time-Delay-SPDT- 10-second-delay-/180949199148?pt=US_Car_Lighting&h ash=item2a2169a92c Am I remembering this correctly? Was this the actual product recommended to be a plug & play option for adding a 10 sec delay to the HID firing before cranking the engine? This sounds like a great idea, but I am electrically challenged. If it is truly plug & play & if it will work correctly with my DDM 35w HIDs then I'm all for it. Does anyone remember this or is anyone currently using this product? Thanks | ||

I remember MikeF5000 doing this, but using a DEI 528T Pulse Timer Relay. His schematic may or may not be a help, but figured it couldn't hurt to share. Schwara, the one you linked to is what I used...MUCH simpler install since it is the relay and time delay built into 1 unit. | ||

I used the 528T because that's all that was available at the time. Now that a simple 10 second delay relay is available, it is by far the best option. It's not 'plug and play', but it's very easy to install:  85 to a switched positive (such as the tail light, license plate light, running light, or low beam (if you've done the dual headlight mod). 86 to ground 30 to you battery positive, with a 15a fuse near the battery end. 87 to your new HID ballast positive. HID ballast negative goes to ground. And that should be that.... BUT! If you want to get fancy with it, get one of these flashing 'alarm' LEDs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12v-Red-Flashing-Dummy-Fak e-Car-Alarm-LED-Light-Dash-Mount-Plastic-housing-/ 150813630544?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231d31 6050  and connect the red wire to the 87a terminal of the relay (and black wire to ground). This way, whenever the headlight is off, the LED is on, and it looks like you have an alarm! Fancy right! (This is a parasitic draw, and if the bike is parked for long durations without a tender, it will kill the battery. This would more than likely take weeks though). | ||

Thanks for the replies. I was probably going to get it anyway, but it seems like an even better idea to mess with this at the same time as I install the HIDs ... which will hopefully happen soon as they have been gathering dust in the garage. | ||

Is this correct?? Instructions from the maker of this relay has the #85 terminal being the ground and the #86 terminal the switched positive. help..thanks | ||
