Has anyone heard anything about EBR's intentions to compete in the 600cc motorcycle market? I understand this could take years due to being a "small" business, but have they made any statements about future intent?

Curious myself and I'm just wandering if the Hero Hastur is what EBR feels should feel this void for their dealers.

I know it's not and EBR but that thing has Erik Buell's influence all over it and from what I understand, from those few people I've talked to at EBR, it just might as well be....we'll see.

I hope the Hastur comes to the US. I think it could be everything the 600cc bike market should be (and maybe was).

Sporty, practical, cheap, and durable.

The current 600cc bikes are amazing, but really, who wants to buy a $11,000 600cc sportbike. What if the Hastur gives 80% of the performance and 90% of the fun for 40% of the cost?

Like the SV-650 and the ZR-7 (back when those were $5000 bikes from the showroom floor).

From what I've heard, the answer for now is no. Long term you never know.

The answer is "no" that the US will not get the Hastur?

If this is true then what is it that Hero plans to sell here in the States? From what I've been told the AX was delayed in order to help get Hero off the ground here in the US.

Could this be true....Don't know, I take everything with a grain of salt.

Richard,

According to this article:

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-08-21/mo torcycle-legend-erik-buell-indias-hero-motocorp-te am-up

quote:

Buell says the Hero imports will include a scooter, high-mileage city bikes, and a lightweight sports bike. Prices could undercut Honda’s CBR300R, which retails for under $5,000.

"Lightweight sports bike" sounds like the HX250R to me.

If you are going to compete in the 600 sportbike class the cheapest way for EBR to do it would be a debored or destroked or both 1190 to 850.

Yelp Hugh, I'd say you're probably right about the 250. It would be a shame not to get the 650 Hastur here in the States though.

Who knows, maybe Erik has something funkey up his sleeve like a 600 plus cc three cylinder...

Yea, I'd love to see the Hastur or something even wilder in that size range. One thing about the Hastur, if the photos we've seen are any indication, the bike they've shown us appears to be a mockup or at most a non-running prototype. Based on the photos of it, the HX250R appears to be ready for production if not already in production. Maybe the Hastur's just going to take another year or two to get production ready.
