John is a very talented Designer. In my experience with him, more artist, than engineer, but a very effective bridge between the two. He had design input on a few Buells including the 1125R and 1190. However there were other designers involved, so it's hard to say how much of his design made it to final production.

As I remember, Jophn Keogh worked as a designer at Buell from 1999-2004 and designed the overall look of the original XB9R, but did not have any input into the 1125R which was styled 'in house' at H-D/Buell after John left (and probably explains why it was ugly in many eyes!).

I don't know if he worked on the 1190 or not, but I haven't heard anything about him having put any work into that project. You can see his CV on his web site here

That, and Erik recently saying in interview HD prevented him from having a fully faired sports bike, thus those fugly pods he so defended their being and presence.

The Xb9r/12r still remains one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever built. I put it right up there (in terms of design) with the 916 for all time best looking bikes.

I always preferred the XBS.

When the 9R came out, proclaimed as a Sportsfighter, I was disappointed it detracting somewhat from the Streetfighter style of the S1.

The 12S is a lovely looking motorcycle. I like what they did with the City X too. And yes I think the R's have aged well. So much so they look better now than they did years ago. A little like the Ducati 999. When they came out many didn't see the attraction. See one now and they look so cool you want one.

I always thought the bikini fairing on the XB9/12r's was ultra sexy. Literally a naked sports bike, a super sport in lingerie, if you will. Being a supersports fan I'm not attracted to sports/street fighter or cafe racers. I can appreciate them but they are not my preference. I always thought the 999 was Ducati's first excursion in function dictating form, a principle I truly admire. Its a cool bike, couldn't agree more.

What he's basically saying is if American talent isn't there it's not Dorna's problem. Hence "they have to start from the beginning". Well how does an American racer progress to Moto GP these days?

As for the tracks. This also includes Great Britain. Silverstone is out of contract after next years race. Dorna are said to be asking too much for the owners of Silverstone to consider (given they're a car racing entity above everything else). Donington is no longer up to spec, and there is nowhere else. It's not all bad (yet) as Dorna is owned by UK investment bank Bridgepoint, who according to the MCN report would not want to see their 'own' GP disappear off the calendar. But with countries like Indonesia and India willing to stump up good money for Moto GP racing in their countries, it's not difficult to see Dorna wanting to chase the business models available where they can best get their profits. I suspect Moto GP racing in America will be no different in this respect. At least until U.S. riders invade the racing scene like the Spanish racers for example, American money / public interest is not enough currently it seems.

Americans seem to be too busy watching boring cars go around in a circle.

Americans seem to be too busy watching boring cars go around in a circle.

Nothing could be further from the truth. unfortunately the group that controls the media outlets for both roadracing and the aforemention boring cirlce running has a vested conflict of interest in promoting circle track as evidenced by recent TV deals that equate to 15 hours of NASCAR coverage per week, even during the office season while restricting AMA to the wave of the future, 'streaming online video'. The American public doesn't know it loves motorcycle racing. Case it point- on the same weekend a NASCAR driver retired from a race due to a stuff nose and MOTOGP rider went on to win a race with a broken leg. High sides are way more spectacular than NASCAR wrecks.

Good luck to anyone trying revive MC RR in the US. It is so far from being on people radar that you will need very deep pockets to suffer the loses needed to bring in people. You are not going to attract many non-motorcycle folks to begin with, non-riders don't relate to it and often think it is stupid dangerous. Then only a tine fraction of riders are interested in racing. Very tough sell. Drop a few million every year or 5 years buying prime TV time and maybe you'll grow the audience to a supportable level. It will be tough.

What a relief. Finally some good news.
I'm very curious how they will handle the "entry level" field.
